UCL needs to be ashamed itself and dismiss the provost.

this signature is dedicated to all those who decided to take Gender Studies instead of any STEM subject just so they could complain about the low numbers of women in STEM. We see too much of this, one minute it's a shirt and the next minute it's a comment about falling in love and crying - I'm sure demanding that people get sacked and forced into apologies is really going to make STEM more appealing to girls/women.

The public "discussion" and libel on twitter is sickening - these "professors" do NOT deserve to teach students. Talk about setting a bad example by prejudging and smearing people.

I of course support the reinstitution of Tim Hunt. I think a formal apology is called for. /Per Bagmark

It is nearly unfathomable that a Nobel laureate was forced to resign over a joke which, even if it had been intended to be taken seriously, had had no effect on his interactions with his female colleagues, as they testified.

No one should be punished for something that was said taken out of context. This whole situation is ridiculous.

When a society loses its sense of humour, it paves the way to totalitarianism. The academic world was supposed to be the cradle of free thinking and speech. It should be run by scholars, not by managers. A true university leader should have defended the freedom of expression and should have immediately dismissed the attacks as infantile and slanderous.

This whole thing makes me indescribably sad. Tim Hunt is great -- let's please stop being horrible to him for no reason.

A total disgrace - a lady who appears to have a femminist attitude as opposed to scientific !

How can we ever be 'proud' of UCL graduation if this is how it treats the 'precious gems' of it's establishment? Until Sir Tim is reinstated I am feeling ASHAMED on behalf of UCL.

Disgraceful society we live in Tim. All the very best. Hearing of your wife's upset was heartbreaking to me.

the result of this witch hunt based on unproven comments made by a woman who has being shown to be dishonest via the false claims on her CV needs to be reversed! innocent until proven guilty was once a vital principle - now we are seeing mob rule

All decisions should be fact-based, and the decision to boot out Tim Hunt was not. Add to that the fact that the main initiator of this whole thing has been, to put it mildly, less than honest about her own life.

So typical of our reactionary knee-jerk withhunt society, where jokes playing on true general social interactions are treated so ridiculously. I have heard women stand up and say much more ridiculous things about men but we can take it and just laugh or feel sorry for the silly speaker, but nothing more. As it should be,
