I support cancer researchers (and the NHS) because I survived cancer. That's what we need protection from, not from silly comments. Words will never hurt me, but cancer kills.

This is an appalling, politically motivated decision that brings UCL into disrepute. To sack someone for a misjudged attempt at irony is appalling. I will be complaining to UCL directly as well.

I worked in the lab next to Tim's for 3 years in the 70's. His group were absolutely inclusive, welcoming and friendly. Their research assistants, usually female, were duly acknowledged in publications - few other labs did this. What has happened to this brilliant, good-humoured man is appalling

It is unjust that this scientist has been so harshly treated. He has apologised to any who were offended, even though what he said harmed no one. His female colleagues know him to be a kind and generous man, encouraging to people of both sexes.

I would consider the resignation of the UCL spin doctor who initiated the resignation as a suitable apology for the UCL to show academic leadership based on academic principles instead of mob rule.

The trouble with Britain today is that Common Purpose PC zealots have killed humour. As a woman I found his comment quite funny, and those women who make a career out of being offended need to shut up and go away, because they most certainly don't speak for me. We are experiencing the March of the Zealots in this Marxist/Fascist society, where black is white and up is the new down..
