Tim Hunt had a foolish five minutes, after a lifetime of excellent research. He was talking about HIS trouble with girls, not THE trouble with girls....The distractinglysexy hashtag series gave us all a laugh at Tim's expense, and that should be an end of it. The Royal Society and UCL should reconsider their decision, in the light of common sense.

The shameful reality is that we live in a world where social media rules by default and academic institutions take their cue from the missguided, rabel-rousing individuals who concern themselves with feigned interest in sexual equality. I have no faith in academic instititutions such as UCL and their knee-jerk response was shameful and cowardly, to say the least.

Everyone says silly things.. but one stupid thing taken out of context should not be enough to end someone's career. People need to consider what he has done to advance women in the field before castigating him for a few very stupid sentences.

He has contributed more to society and to science than all his critics. Perhaps the words were ill judged but his sacking was the disgraceful act of cowards.

I do not believe that Tim Hunt received a fair hearing, and I believe that his treatment undermines public trust that statements from academics reflect their expertise and not their fear of losing their jobs.

Trial by Twitter is wrong, and UCL were cowardly in giving way. Sir Tim's valuable scientific work should not be disregarded because of a minor error of judgment.

I have always hated bullies and bullies in a mob are worse. This man has done nothing wrong - if people don't agree with what he says, so what. Shame on any Academic institution that cannot use their intellect sufficiently to see this.

Has the world gone mad? What an incredible loss to the scientific world. What exactly was wrong/untruthful with what he said ? Women/men do fall in love and women cry in the workplace I know I have ! Some feminists are scarily dangerous/deluded! I think it outrageous that some feminists think they can hound a gifted person out of their job and shame on the European Research Council and the Royal Society Commitee.
