The behaviour of Rees and St Louis is reprehensible. Alas, the culture in many universities is such that in all probability neither realised that there could be such a reaction to their spineless, idiotic decisions.

Tim Hunt has been grossly mistreated by UCL, the press and public. UCL will invite an islamist hate preacher to speak at their uni (who described homosexuals as dogs), but won't allow a man whose joke was taken out of context to remain in their establishment? He is nobel prize winning, has the typical English sense of humour and does not deserve to go through trial by social media. Twitter is not a reliable source of evidence, and has many pouncing loners ready to strike down anyone they wish. Establishments bowing to social media is incredibly idiotic, and Tim hunt should be reinstated, or offered a new career at a fellow institution. He is not disgraced, those who have vilified him for making a harmless joke should be vilified. Humour is allowed, as is free speech. Political correctness is ridiculous when taken to such extremes. Tim Hunt, you have done no wrong.

Having read the full quote of what he said, it seems Tim Hunt was misquoted as saying the opposite of what he actually said. "`Now seriously" specifically shows he was joking, and put in full context, he is clearly by no means a sexist, quite the opposite in fact. The knee-jerk reaction to the feminist witch hunt against him is shameful. He deserves to be reinstated in all of his positions and have a full and public apology.

Tim Hunt has done nothing wrong. UCL should bring him back. As UCL have bullied him into resigning it puts a question mark over their commitment to diversity. As UCL are bullies how can you trust them to treat people in a fair way. People who bullied Hunt into leaving should not be on diversity committee.

I've already signed another other petition to reinstate Sir Tim not because I am anti women in science but because of the troubling encroachment of political correctness, a fear of saying the wrong thing will hold back scientific enquiry.
To those still supporting the good prof's forced removal, just think, if you misspeak and and the forces of PC hound you, and they will, quite suddenly and without warning, you will wish you had left science and politics separate.

The Twitter Mob is one of the more evil things in this modern world. Yes, he made a stupid joke, but please condemn the deed and not the person. How can the UCL judge him without giving him a fair trial (or any trial at all) in a modern, enlightened society?
I am a woman working in a male-dominated field (not science, but web development). And I was certainly not offended by his remark. I can understand how some could be offended, but not to this ridiculous extent.

If this petition fails, Sir Tim can and should sue UCL for unfair dismissal, and I would be happy to contribute to a fighting fund. UCL should also consider whether David Colquhoun's conduct in this affair constitutes professional misconduct.
