Shame on you UCL! What Tim actually said is irrelevant - we have freedom of speech in this country. He is entitled to express his opinion, as am I and everyone else, without fear of loosing their job. Go some way to redeeming UCLs reputation by reinstating Sir Tim. In future remember your duty to promote free speech.

What ever happened to the axiom related to freedom of speech "I may disagree with what you say; but I will defend unto death your right to say it" So it's becoming a PC crime to joke about anything now.

Why hasn't the media taken a closer look at the role of DeeAnne Julius in this affair?

Professor Hunt's treatment by UCL has brought UCL into disrepute and has damaged the cause of science. Scientists, great and small, must be allowed to say what they think, even if it is silly, without being hounded from their jobs by twitter-mobs and Human-Resources robots. Whatever happened to this one-time bastion of free-thinking and plain speaking? Jeremy Bentham must be hopping up and down in his chair!

Sir Tim's comments appear to be correct - all this wailing and gnashing of teeth from these women is infantile to say the least. Pathetic.

A baying witch hunt by the humourless left

No investigation by UCL before asking for his resignation. If you deny free speech - however seemingly offensive, you are on a very rocky slope. Overreaction plus!

Whoever was involved in the craven decision to encourage this great man to go from UCL should be ashamed of themselves.

UCL spineless. Constructive dismissal unfair. Twitter = bullying rabble. We have had to search for this petition not simply 'like' another's tweet!

Sir Tim is not a comic, but the politically correct wouldn't recognize a joke it it jumped up and but them. He should not be sacked.

The feminazis have won again. Mob rule took the day. He said something silly, but it was not a sacking offence.

A craven and despicable knee-jerk reaction from two institutions which should have had the maturity to ignore the hysterical lynch mob on Twitter.

Sir Tim Hunt should not be chased out by political correctness just because his sense of humour isn't everyone's

UCL you are not worthy of this man. Stop shaming yourself with this ridiculous witchhunt.

What a terrible way to treat a decent, distinguished man, who made an error of judgement. Blown up out of all proportion by the politically correct speech and thought police.
