As always, the MSM cherry pick it's spin bites in order to make a cheap headline and get the Twittering classes in uproar. Good for business. Bad for dissemination of facts and freedom of experience and expression.

This guy is an award winning scientist.
The people who demanded his resignation are professional victims & crazy people. Let sanity prevail, reinstate Tim Hunt.

Silly comment and mocking laughter should be the response. Shame that a brain is sent down the drain by those we disdain for being so plain - self righteous

Its shaming that an institution like UCL can react in this way to the twits on twitter.

It is appalling that a man who does so much for science and supports women in science should be shamed and disgraced by the Twitterati. How come the online media were all over this one small snippet and neglected to show us the rest of his speech?

Disgraceful episode - too many knee-jerk reactions to off-the-cuff remarks not intended to taken seriously.

It was appalling that a man who does so much to promote science -- and help women in science -- should lose his job over media outrage at one small part of his speech. Also, the media seemed uninterested in the main thrust of his speech.

UCL has let itself down very badly with its knee-jerk reaction to Sir Tim's speech. I would advise any student or academic to think twice about attending an institution that has such poor regard for the free expression of opinions based on personal experience. We all (and academics especially) MUST be free to challenge views, even if it is not politically correct, otherwise we will be entering a new Dark Ages.
