This takes the h'absolute biscuit, the man's done a lot for science and will continue to do so. Where's the sympathy for a brilliant man who slips up once in a speech because he's nervous and tried a silly joke that backfired? He apologised, retracted it, and still he was gutted and tossed aside, an ignominious end to an illustrious and remarkable tenure.

Sir Tim Hunt has promoted women in science his whole career. He should be reinstated immediately.

I'm signing because Sr Tim Hunt is a great scientist with a rare free and selfless spirit, who can continue to make important contributions to science, including supporting and mentoring women scientists. His words were inappropriate but his actions were clearly supportive of women scientists. It would be a pity if he were no longer able to make these contributions with his unique talent.

Tim Hunt should be reinstated with apologies, and (some) media should reflect on their attitude towards political correctness, and their role in elevating the level of debates around controversial issues.

INSANE. Why on earth is this man being sacked? I'm a feminist female and I think it's sick that political correctness is ruining not only open dialogue, but becoming a nightmare which is crushing free speech!

My full and unconditional support for Sir Tim Hunt. A jocular comment followed by a caveat weighed against a lifetime of working with, and supporting, both sexes is so debilitating especially coming from such people of limited ability.

The way this man was treated was shocking. I am a woman and I feel strongly he deserves an apology. The man was being tongue in cheek, by all means poke a bit of fun at him in return, do not vilify him.
