Bring Back Tim Hunt!

There's a lack of humour at the UCL... and don't get me started about European institutions

I have never heard anything so ridiculous as what has happened to this "nobel" man. Outrageous that he should be so belittled- by an absolute nonentity of a woman. He did a great job inserting a little humor into his student address, which 99 % of the world's population would appreciate. Then went on to support and praise female scientists. This is the biggest storm in a teacup I have ever heard of and his universities should be ashamed that they have not supported him.

This is an absolute outrage. I am shocked at the turn of events, and how his comments were treated. It was obviously a light hearted take on the subject of sexes working together and simply a cathartic digression within the rest of the speech. I am appalled at how it has turned out and quite worried that if you aren't allowed to joke like this anymore without it ruining your career, what can you joke about? It's shameful. I wish this man all the best and hopes he is reinstated and given an apology.

Please stop punishing this poor man for speaking as he did. There was no hate present, and it surely did not constitute a reasonable cause for destroying his career. I am a feminist of many years, and I do not think women want men to be victimized.

Had Tim Hunt really suggested that men and women should not work in the same labs, and that women are the problem, I would be all for firing him. I strongly believe in and prefer mixed-gender work environments. But what he actually said is that the world is changing and must change. Women are vital to science and must be encouraged to participate more in same, despite the problems men of his age have with their own feelings towards mixed-gender labs. He is of course right, and wise to acknowledge his own limitations. But we were all lied to about what he said, and responded uncritically to a media that prefers clicks and advertising revenue to anything resembling the truth.

Gee, its almost like his comment was an ironic, self-deprecating stab at his own personal history, closed out in the most apologetic, self-conscious manner possible. SJW response? Clearly he deserves to be fired from his job, mocked relentlessly by the public at large, and incorporated into the broader narrative of evil men who can't help but keep women down! What a crock of shit.

I can't believe this.

I'm signing this because yesterday we were all saying "Je suis Charlie" to protect the right of making satire and today we are thinking that making a joke which may have offended someone is a good reason to loose a job.

Satire is dead in this country and the angry Left are its pallbearers. How could any sane person have missed the irony implicit in Sir Tim's statement? But then, sanity is in short supply these days.

A man who has dedicated his life to science shouldn't have been fired over this. Disgusting

I worked in labs for more than 40 years. He's right!

Have daughters who did science subjects successfully and had a good sense of humour. Can't believe this silly persecution.

I do not know whether Professor Hunt will wish to be reinstated after the way he was treated in the University, however, I think the UCL must certainly issue a formal apology.

As a former student of UCL (BA Classics 1960; MA 1963) I have always been grateful to have been a member of a community which taught me to value both high standards and tolerance of the opinions of others. Former Provosts with the integrity of Ifor Evans and Noel Annan would never have allowed such a debacle to occur.

I hate the twitter mob. Also uneducated female journalists - they're not in science, they have no idea about anything but their own easily offended egos.

I am a feminist hated by the internet as much as Hunt because of similar misunderstandings/misrepresentations. Please give this man his job back.
