Bring Back the Spending Cap -- Sign the Petition
The Anchorage Assembly and Mayor Berkowitz eliminated the Spending Cap in 2016 and passed a budget $9 million over the Spending Cap: Should we bring back the Spending Cap by putting the following language into the Anchorage Municipal Charter?:
Section 13.12 Spending Limitation on general government operating budget
Total per capita expenditures, in the general government operating budget including any amendments or supplements, may only increase over the previous year's approved budget by an amount no greater than the percentage change in the July Anchorage CPI over the previous July CPI. Not subject to this limitation are amounts to pay debt service for voter approved bonds, legal settlements and judgment, expenditures by limited service areas, an emergency ordinance enacted pursuant to Charter section 10.03 and grants from non-municipal sources.
Enough with the spending already. My property taxes are getting out of control and the city acts like money grows on trees. Bring back the cap before we go broke!
