AS NEW ORLEANS' TRICENTENNIAL APPROACHES, THERE'S ONE BIRTHDAY PRESENT WE WANT...AND ONLY UTAH CAN GIVE IT TO US!

AFTER THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ'S BRIEF STAY IN THE CRESCENT CITY,the team was moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Sold by the original owner, there were a variety of factors exacerbating the team's hometown struggles, from the lack of a viable stadium to mismanagement of the team's marketing and presence in the city. However, that purple, green, and Golden Era, when "Pistol" Pete Maravich, an athletic dynamo who kicked off his legend at Louisiana State University and astounded fans with the New Orleans Jazz, ended almost as soon as it had begun: New Orleans was only the home to the Jazz for five years, from 1974 to 1979!

Now, at the beginning of preparations to celebrate the City of New Orleans' Third Centenary, as one of the oldest cities in the country, we are ready to party like never before. New Orleanians love our town, but the whole country looks to us as an example of resilience in the face of disaster, our spirit of rebuilding and restoring, and our funky, upbeat, laissez-faire culture, and we are convinced that the American people will all collectively wish us a fond Happy 300. But Utah is in the unique position of being able to offer us something no one else can, a critical piece of our history, a nom de héritage, a vital piece of our cultural identity that has been borrowed from us since 1979...the New Orleans Jazz name for our basketball team!Add your name to let Utah know how bad we want this!
