Let our brilliant illustrators have their own, much loved award.

This was an unnecessary change to the name of the award, done with no consultation with those who shadow the award. Why it can't be the Kate Greenaway Yoto Award I fail to understand.

I’m a Children’s Librarian and firmly believe there should still be an award that recognises outstanding book illustration alongside one that awards outstanding writing.

How important it is to keep the continuity of Kate Greenaway’s legacy. She was a gifted woman who helped to create a whole new genre of books and her name should live on in association with the widely respected award, honouring illustrators’ skills in creating memorable books for children who can be stimulated by the visual long before they understand the spoken word.

Bring back the Kate Greenaway award - illustration doesn't get enough recognition and is a vital part of getting children reading

As a former judge on the CKG awards, I'm still baffled that this decision has been made for two reasons. The first, that I'm concerned that illustrators are being side-lined (particularly because Yoto is an audio service!), and secondly because once again a female name has been brushed aside to further promote a male one. This was one of the few awards to be named after a prominent FEMALE person. What is this teaching our children? CILIP has sold out for sponsorship money. When I was a judge, Peters, an independent bookseller, was the sponsor and they championed BOTH awards.

Absolutely disgusted that the Kate Greenaway name has been removed from the awards. I thought that the change was made by Yoto. Didn't realise that it was made by CILIP, and I'm on a YLG committee.

Women are always erased from history. In these days of cultural capital being worth money why would you not want that historic lineage???

Illustration in childrens books is important in its own right. Erasing the name of Kate Greenaway from this award downgrades the importance illustration plays in childrens literature.

Carnegie had nothing to do with illustration, unlike Kate Greenaway . Bring back the Kate Greenaway medal. Please.

This is an unfortunate misstep. Please restore Kate Greenaway's name to this medal.

It is rather outrageous that this prestigious award was re-named. Do the correct thing and reinstate it's proper name.

Very important to keep the iconic name for this award. Greenaway was a hug influence and her name must be retained.

CILIP have clearly lost any sense of the history of children’s books in making this decision.

This award MUST be named after an ILLUSTRATOR, not a brand!

You should be honouring the past, not destroying it for commercial reasons. Librarians should be ashamed of this crass decision.

The importance of a name relevant to illustration cannot be overemphasised. Replacement of Kate Greenaway by a “brand” name whilst I imagine raising money is the absolute opposite of the values that should be held by librarians.

Yoto and its devices will be gone in a heartbeat, KG’s work abides. If they were smarter they’d hope her name and her brilliance would lend them at least the aura of permanence.
