Replacing Kate Greenway with the sponsors name Yoto shows corporations are more valued than artists, even for an award for illustrators! PLEASE use illustrator Kate Greenaway's name on an award for illustrators.

Kate Greenaway - an artist of great achievement, a fine example of a determined woman who developed her talent, & a pioneer of modern illustration for children.

Do not let this attempt to erase yet another woman from cultural history succeed!

What a travesty that CILIP calls itself a professional association and yet carelessly destroys a recognised award that professional librarians have worked so hard to promote over the years. I'm not at all sorry to have resigned my membership.

Kate Greenaway was an outstanding female illustrator. Her name should not be removed from an outstanding illustrators award. There needs to be a differentiation between the 2 awards.

As a school librarian at a school for girls i am appalled at this move which only serves to push illustrators, women, and book history further into the background.

Let's not cancel the work of many fine illustrators who have worked and won the Greenaway medal, By including it under the banner of 'The Carnegies' it is demeaning and diminishing work which is not celebrated in any other major prize.

This is a very poor decision, seemingly pushed by sponsorship? CILIP should be championing book illustrators, not making them invisible.

Let's continue to celebrate the work of illustrators and give credit where it is due.

Restore Kate Greenaway - erasing an illustrator, and a female one at that - is wrong on so many levels.

Kate Greenaway's name should be restored to this award, she was an inspiring and talented woman. How bland and uninteresting is the new name. As children we are enticed into books by their illustrations long before we can read. Illustrators should be recognised and celebrated for the wonderful work they do. Bring back the Kate Greenaway Medal!

Matt Imrie is a hero for bringing this to our attention. As a former shadowing leader, I cannot express how important and useful it is to have a distinct, named, illustration award, especially when leading shadowing groups in a primary setting. For young children the pictures are just as important as the words when learning to read and to love books.

the decision to ditch the name and recognition of Kate Greenaway has always baffled me.

It is vital that awards named after someone should keep that name in order to remember. By naming it after the current sponsor it detracts from the original honour and makes it all about the sponsorship.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! The Greenaway medal is for illustrators not audio books.

Others have said much better than me the importance of having an illustrator's name for an illustrator's award and the importance of that illustrator being a woman. I'd also like to argue that although CILIP is saying it will reduce confusion, I can testify that it has only increased confusion. Our school, participating in the shadowing scheme last year, was confused and kept forgetting that it was an award for illustration because they've already heard of The Carnegie and know that it's for writing.
