As someone heavily involved in cataloguing ethics, which seeks to redress the historical bias towards white male middle or upper class men as the founts of all knowledge and talent, I am apalled by this decision by my professional body. CILIP has a Code of Ethics and I feel that we as a profession have a clear duty to endore and apply it.

I am very grateful to those who started the petition.. I was appalled to hear of this change - an affront to our cultural heritage.

Why was it changed to 'Yoto' are they the sponsors this year? Couldn't they combine them? The Kate Greenaway Carnegie Medal... (sponsored by Yoto)?

Illustrators are often the invisible contributors in the publishing industry. Let’s not erase another’s legacy.

I would like future generations of the most talented illustrators to be recognised with a prize of the same name as greats such as Shirley Hughes, John Burningham and Raymond Briggs.

Stand up to the casual erasure of female creativity, influence and legacy.

Illustrators are frequently forgotten in literature. Please don’t erase this one.

This arbitrary decision ought to have been put to a vote by the entire membership of CILIP. If we remain largely unconsulted, how can CILIP be seen to represent its members?

Kate Greenaway was the originator of the medal. Restore and acknowledge her contribution to illustration.

Very disappointing move, especially if it's purely in the name of branding!
