Please continue to celebrate this pioneering female art worker and illustrator.

How pointless, insulting, and also reducing the prestige for new winners: rather than getting to say you've won an award everybody's heard of, you instead get something which is easily confused with the writer's award.

I wholeheartedly endorse this petition and the ideas that it is based on. The Greenaway Award should keep the name of a pioneering illustrator.

This grossly insensitive change to a corporate name should never have happened and needs to be reversed.

The most prestigious illustration award should carry the name of an illustrator as it always has.

Absolute disgrace that they would even do this without general consultation, and rename was not even a more recent FEMALE ILLUSTRATOR!!!!

No need to change something that is already excellent!

Sometimes commercial gain is not as important as integrity.

I don’t work in libraries/publishing/illustration - or any other relevant field - but have known about the Kate Greenaway medal since before I started school. Not being in/of said world, if I’d seen the new award name my response would have been “is that like the Kate Greenaway Medal?”; & should I then have been enlightened, to be outraged about the casual pushing aside of an exceptional woman. I don’t imagine either of those are the responses they’re looking for from the general public; let alone both.

I write and illustrate. They are entirely different. And for some reason one is often seen as more important than the other. I wonder if giving both the awards the same name was a misguided attempt to adjust that? I think it will have the opposite effect so am signing petition. The Kate Greenaway award is so important for illustrators as a stand alone award. We don’t want it to be the lesser of the Carnegie’s - which it almost certainly will become

How thoughtless and narrow minded to remove Kate Greenaway name Ton the oldest British award for illustration. Please reinstate it.

The Greenaway medal celebrates a working-class woman pioneer. Like the Fawcett Society or the Garrett Anderson mentoring scheme, it is vital it reminds us of the woman it commemorates. It is not a branding opportunity for corporations or magnates. Women have too few statues, too few dedicated awards. Illustrators remain frequently unknown & underpaid. This renaming was crass and ill-conceived and the former title should be restored at once.

I really support this petition to restore Kate Greenaway's name to this illustration award - it is part of the distinctiveness of the award which is one of very few for illustrators, and Kate Greenaway's name should not have been erased from it.

I agree that Kate Greensway's name should be reinstated for this award, being an artist whose contribution to illustration remains influential and who, as a woman, represents a historically marginalised group. Restoring her name will keep that of a woman artist front and centre in an industry where women have long battled for recognition.

Illustrators struggle hard enough for recognition. Kate Greenaway's name is rightfully attached to this award for her many achievements. Who was crass enough to take it off?
