It is so wrong of CILIP to have made this decision. Kate Greenaway deserves to be the flagbearer for illustration—her name needs to be back on the award next year and permanently.

Restore the name, honour the history. Crass rename, on all counts

Please restore the Kate Greenaway Medal to its original namesake. To completely eliminate Kate's name is an abduction and a slander to everything it stands for.

Absolute disgrace and yet another attempt to erase the contribution of women in history

We need to keep the names of female creatives in the public arena. Please change the name back.

How utterly shameful. Yeah, let's cancel a woman for the sake of legitimising corporate virtue signalling.

Thanks for your support, Malcolm. Yes, very strange 'strategic' decisions being made.

There is no sense in which this decision makes sense. Please continue to honour the name of this talented female artist

Thanks for your support. I was bothered by this for several weeks and it took about a month to get a response, by which time conversations with others prompted us to act. It's nice to know so many people feel the same way.

It is typical that an organisation which once had Library in its name for all to see who encourages an understanding of the value of libraries & especially children's and school libraries, should now want to remove the name of this significant woman illustrator.
Bthw, see if more than one in a million members of the general public knows what CILIP stands for. Good job I'm not a betting person.

When this alteration in the name of this prestigious award was announced I was concerned that it diminished the importance of illustration in the field of children’s literature. Therefore I am glad that others have taken it upon themselves to try to restore Kate Greenaway’s name and would like to add my voice to the those who have signed this petition.

Beautifully written petition with a compelling argument; this will always be The Greenaway Medal to me. So many past winners have specifically commented on the honour of winning an award bearing Kate Greenaway’s name. Long may she continue to enrich and inspire book lovers and illustrators everywhere.

Recognising artists over corporations has never been more important.

We deserve at least an actual explanation for the decision.
