The importance of illustration is immense, necessary and should be celebrated.

It was given that name because of that person ans apart from sheer cheek of it, kowtowing to the now ubiquitous cancelling, once you start changing names, what's to stop the new one being changed in the future when that one becomes less marketable? it's ridiculous.

A disgraceful move that diminshes the achievement of the woman in favour of the sponsor who should be ashamed if themselves! And why must an industrialist be publicised on the back of Kate Greenaway's place in history.

It is hugely inappropriate and insensitive to remove the female illustrator's name from this award and replace it with a male businessman. How do we encourage girls in to any industry when their achievements and role models are man washed over?

Cancelling the name of a valued contributor to the publishing industry should never happen. It's sad someone thought it a good idea, and I sincerely hope the decision will be reversed and Kate Greenaway's none will be restored in time for the 2024 nominations. I agree with those who said that the new name is meaningless.

Please don't write Kate Greenaway's name out of the history of the medal that was established in her honour. Just as the Carnegie retains Carnegie's name, so too should the illustration award retain Kate Greenaway's name. Her illustrations are well known, well liked and well regarded and now is not the time, in the 21st century, to be writing women out of our history. As a bookseller of 18 years I am appalled at the recognition illustrators have to fight for and would like to see more equal recognition for writing and illustration; not an illustration award being subsumed into a branding exercise for an award celebrating writing.

A real shame that this decision was made unilaterally. Please restore Kate Greenaway's name on the award before the 2024 nominations.

As a Librarian, I am unhappy this sad change was made to our medal with so little consultation.

I urge you to reinstate Kate Greenaway’s name. This is a long established prize, and one of only a few, which specifically celebrates illustration. Her name is widely known and even children today enjoy her books. The new name is meaningless.

The name "Kate Greenaway" should be restored to this prestigious medal. As an important (female) contributor to the British Book Industry, her name should remain on the award for illustration!

An entirely inappropriate decision.

Please do not change the name to a male industrialist. That changes the whole meaning of this award.

I am truly shocked by this. I left CILIP years ago, and I have never regretted my decision.
