As I said on Twitter, I know the librarians who run the medals do their absolute damnedest to make them the best awards in the world (which they are), but I too would love to see the Kate Greenaway name return. It's such a specific honor on its own and honors a foundational female illustrator.

Making female less visible rather than more visible is a crying shame. Your sponsor should understand they are not more important than the achievement of the artist.

Too far. Branding expediency is pure kowtowing - bet it wouldn't have happened had Kate been Keith. Just saying.

My thanks to my home institution for officially supporting this petition, and for supporting the Kate Greenaway winners since the beginning. The University Library has collected 2 copies of all award-winning books since they were first awarded in the 1950s.

As if Carnegie's name needed to be known; as if Kate Greenway's name should be effaced.

Please use the Kate Greenaway name in the award. She was a great illustrator, which Mr Carnegie was not.

Please reconsider this insensitive decision. As a cultural institution (I assume CILIP would consider itself to be so) you appear to be moving against the tide within our sector.

This change should never have been made in the first place. It’s like renaming the Caldecott Medal “the Spotify Newbery Awards”.

An award should stand by itself not link to a sponsor. The Kate Greenaway medal has stood for excellence in illustration for many years had has a reputation valued by many. Don't dilute it.

Why was this deemed necessary? It is a nonsense.

It seems complete madness to change the name of this award - the Kate Greenaway Medal has always been synonymous with picture books/illustration - why confuse it with the existing, but separate, Carnegie Medal?

100% agree with this - in the update of the medals which has been mostly positive, this seems like an unnecessary regression.

Please reinstate Kate Greenaway's name to the illustration award to recognise her contribution to children's book illustration and to redress the balance between male and female representation.

As a retired children's librarian, I know the importance of illustration in children's books - especially for the younger age groups. Kate Greenaway was an icon and ought to be remembered with this award.
