Please don't erase this wonderful woman, surely Yoto and Kate Greenaway can both be mentioned?

Sponsorship is fair enough but I'm not sure corporate rebranding is necessary.

I have taught illustration at 3 institutions. The majority are women. Please do not erase this woman's name from this award and from history. It's thoughtless and unnecessary.

Dumping Kate Greenaway for a wealthy, controversial industrial baron's branding is beyond crass. Shocking that CILIP wouldn't know how tone-deaf and inappropriate this change was. FIX IT!! As both an artist and writer, I am hugely disappointed that anyone would even think of doing this. Most artists will neither recognize nor respect the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration, if they know its history.
Not a smart move, and a regrettable mistake, so kindly reinstate Kate Greenaway's name on this award, pronto.

It was the Yoto Kate Greenaway last year, but this was changed for the 2023 award season.

Blatant erasure of illustration history. Keep this award in the original name of Kate Greenway and refrain from erasing this woman's historical connection.

Taking the name of a distinguished woman illustrator off a long-established award seems wrong. It distresses me. In addition, I wouldn’t recognise the award under its new name as having much significance while I’ve known for years how very important the Kate Greenaway award is.

This seems pointless at best, and utterly tone-deaf in any case. If funding is an issue, surely a compromise such as Yoto Kate Greenaway Medal should suffice?

I am so honoured that you have signed this, since A Monster Calls deserved both KGM and C. I don't have a beef any of CLILP librarian, and a few former YLG judges have been signing. We just care about keeping the Kate Greenaway 'brand' because her name is so meaningful.

A ridiculous decision! Surely Kate Greenaway deserves to be remembered in the naming of the medal? Please reinstate her name.

Erasing the long-standing name of this medal is an injustice to female illustrators and erodes recognition and prestige of the award. Andrew Carnegie - a controversial figure in his own time - hardly needs more publicity. As an educator specializing in the history of illustration, who is at pains to support and encourage the many young women entering the field in the underpaid area of children's books, I am outraged and insulted. Please keep the name.

Continuing to celebrate this remarkable woman is as important today as it was when she was active in a time not to long after when Mary Evans had to take the name George Eliot in order to be taken seriously as a writer.

Kate Greenaway's name must be kept for this award. Anything other than full retention is a slap in the face to her and her legacy! No to renaming!
