Hiding Kate Greenaway, & her work, from history is an insult to her & to illustratos everywhere. For many of us the artists added to our reading pleasure.

Grotesque decision. In my own work I always foreground illustrators by name, when they haven't been Disappeared by publishers, or through the British Library's removal of all djs.

As a retired librarian and former judge on the Carnegie and Greenaway panels, I support this petition. Hugely disappointing decision by CILIP.

This is a disgraceful dumming down of an award named in honour of a phenomenal illustrator

I think it’s very insensitive and a real shame that this has happened.

A retrograde step to erase the connection with a remarkable woman and illustrator. Please reconsider this decision.

Having the name of an illustrator on the award would help raise the profile of illustrators.

It seems frankly perverse to remove Kate Greenaway's name from the award. Anyone in the field knows exactly who Kate Greenaway was and how important she was for book illustration.

It's important to recognise heritage otherwise what's it all for?

To erase the name of a female illustrator in favour of a a male philanthropist is deeply inappropriate for this prize and a retrograde step more generally for an association that should be promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity.

Keep the name of an actual illustrator in the name of this award specifically for illustrators - surely that makes sense?

Let's celebrate the talent and name the name! Aspiring illustrators and everyone in the book world acknowledge the identity and inherited values of 'The Greenaway Medal for Illustration'

This seems like a cruel and disrespectful decision. Please reflect. Use the sponsor's gift for something else - best young illustrator?

Please retain the name of the Greenaway Medal. Create a new award for Mr Carnegie if you must honour him.
