I am appalled to learn of the plan to rename the Kate Greenaway Medal. Please reconsider, and continue to honour the legacy of that remarkably gifted woman and all the other illustrators who have not received the recognition they deserve.

What a shameful change in the name of the medal! Hopefully it will be restored to the more appropriate "Kate Greenaway Medal".

Very happy to sign this in a personal capacity, with my PhD research background into translated children's literature in mind. Illustrators and translators have similarly poor press and recognition - this is a huge decision for CILIP and merits full discussion and debate across children's literature and publishing.

Very important to keep honouring Kate Greenaway's name - it would be a real diminution to change it.

It seems strange that, at a time when efforts are being made to highlight the achievements of women in the past, that Kate Greenaway's contribution to illustration should have been downgraded in this way

Like many people who grew up as a reader in the UK, Kate Greenaway's work and name was how I learned about the significance of illustrators. Now, as a book history scholar and researcher of contemporary reading cultures, I am only too aware of the challenges that today's illustrators of all genders face in gaining recognition for their work. Please restore Kate Greenaway's name to this prize: she has inspired so many artists, writers and readers. Her name *is* the "brand" that this medal needs, and she earned it!

Lack of awareness of international weight such classic awards have....why such a peculiar change? No consultation is shocking-CILIP!

Why is this even a question? It should obviously be restored.

The name of Kate Greenaway should be restored to the award - there are so many reasons in favour of keeping the name of a renowned, influential illustrator, especially a female illustrator, whose name is established and well-known internationally in the context of the award as well.
