Its very rare for me to sign up for anything, but this is absolutely needed. Particularly that this was not workshopped before being rolled out, the individuals involved should be ashamed of themselves.

Please don't remove Kate Greenaway's name from this prize. We need to actively celebrate more women, not fewer. And illustrators themselves need more independent recognition, not less. If you call it the Carnegie Medal for Illustration, it just makes it even easier for people to think of illustration as an add-on

As a librarian I feel that the Kate Greenaway medal had meaning for children, adults, illustrators and women authors.
Please reinstate her name as women need to be recognised.

I grew up with Journeys Through Bookland and Kate Greenaway illustrations in the first book in the set, and I have always loved them. As an artistic child I used to even copy some of her drawings. I think it is a shame to allow this step to "cancel culture" by eliminating such a talented illustrator. She really needs to be celebrated, not canceled.

Sharing books with Kate Greenway illustrations are one of the most vivid memories I have from my childhood. And she was one of the few important females I was aware of growing up. The award was incredibly lucky to be associated with her and to remove her name is utter madness.

It's appalling that we should lose the Greenaway name. The Carnegie Greenaway is a brand. Ditching Greenaway is a slight to all illustrators.
