A possible ancestor of mine? We Greenaways should stick together. I do have one of her small illustrations hanging on my wall.

Good illustration is key to books and has been important to me since early childhood. Kate Greenaway is an iconic name and the award is devalued by removing her name. Just as importantly, as the petition says, the name of an actual illustrator, and a female one at that, should not be erased in some corporate type rebranding exercise.

It is diabolical that Kate Greenaway, an accomplished FEMALE illustrator, has been replaced with the name of a male industrialist. Why are institutions so misogynistic? Why are they totally unable to acknowledge the accomplishments of women? They wouldn't have changed the name invited had been named after a man.

As a native of West Virginia in the United States, I am familiar with Andrew Carnegie’s more disappointing and disastrous decisions. As a former librarian, I believe the medal’s name should be restored.

Greed and money over the arts.

Replacing a real person who accomplished so much during her lifetime and who inspired generations of readers and artists with some trumped up, short lived corporation is insane. As we all have seen, corporations rebrand themselves every few years, or get bought or go bankrupt. Keep Kate Greenaway's name on the prize and let that corporation pay for a local library branch.

Branding expediency! Jeepers creepers. This "re-branding" is foolish, insensitive, insulting, and just plain wrong. Kate Greenaway and her art mean something to children's literature. Yoto (whatever it is) does not.

I taught K-5 for years. Kate Greenaway’s illustrations were very popular with my students and me. Let’s not drop her from her credits due!
