Any Hoover Servis Hotpoint twintub. Cleaner clothes more environmentally friendly using hot water from tap no need to heat like automatics.

Brings back memories but I have a Maytag washer which has been good until now but the clothes are soaking wet but this is a new problem but the spin seems to be slow regardless so energy savings on 1 side then need to do 2 cycles on the dryer

My 20 yr old Bosch Automatic has just packed up and I've had to pull out my Hotpoint twin tub. It was fantastic. Still 4/5 loads to the hour including pegging out. (I'm lucky I have a garden in sunshine!). It was very noisy so in need of a good service but washed really clean and spun dry thoroughly. When I was young we didn't have electricity as we lived in the country. In school holidays we had to take turns to move the agitator in the gas boiler for my mum's washing. There were 6 of us so washing took all day. Wincyette sheets didn't help either. And she was lucky to have gas to heat the water! After I'd washed all the loads today I put the floor cloth in for a session, my mum would have added the mop head too. No vac you see! After a few loads, the water looks dirty but it still produces clean washing. My husband's old Aunt used to have a lovely Yorkshire saying "it's a gift that God has ge'en, how mucky watter washes clee-an! I haven't said it for 20 years, but I said it today. Such a fabulous machine and so economic on water. Just give us the strength to keep pulling the washer out!

Wonderful to see this, however I think these days people are generally too lazy to stand and work with these (far) superior washing machines - they just want to press a button and go away. By the way, you are slightly out on the spin speed - the Hotpoint Supermatic range had a spin speed of 3100RPM - the fastest spin ever commercially available. That is why I always wrap creasable clothes first, and spin them while wrapped - it almost presses them fr you, with relatively little further ironing required. Good luck with the petition. I would use nothing else - automatics are just rubbish in comparison, and certainly would never last as long as these workhorses....

I'm looking to buy a twin tub now as I have no room in my small kitchen for a washing machine but storage space in a spare room.

I totally agree. These washing machines were very well built and did a good job. However most spares are now unavailable. They are electric, not electronic and are fairly simple to repair in an age when most people prefer to junk a machine rather than paying high costs for 'motherboards' etc.

We should also have a concurrent petition for the Hoovermatic as well, as both machines were superb and put modern automatics to shame. The problem is nobody these days wants to stand over a twin tub or wrestle it out from a cupboard to use it.
