Chris Griffith is one of the most dedicated and enthusiastic teachers we have met in the district. To lose him would be a serious tragedy.

I am outraged that BPS has made such an ill-advised decision. Mr. Griffith is my son’s favorite teacher at RMS and he truly loves orchestra and keeps pursuing it because of the dedication and encouragement of Mr. Griffith. Losing such a passionate teacher like him would be doing a tremendous disservice to our students.

Oh my gosh! I truly cannot believe that such an outrageous decision like this has been made! Orchestra truly is a specialized subject, and it takes a special type of person to teach the subject while keeping students engaged. Mr. Griffith did both of those things, not because he was required, but because he truly cares about his students and is passionate about music.
He has taught me to play beyond what I thought I was capable of, he has taught me to care about detail and musicality, and he has most importantly taught me to love music. Being the best musician you can be is important, but it is more important to love playing, and he paved the path to a fun experience of orchestra.
I don’t know how the decision was made to have a band teacher replace an orchestra teacher, but this decision is truly disappointing. How come we can have THREE band teachers at the expense of an orchestra teacher? Where is the logic in this?
Mr. Griffith has proven to his students and everyone around him that he has what it takes to make our orchestra program the best it can be. I am in the top orchestra in high school now, and I can without a doubt say that he plays a HUGE role in where I am today. Every time he enters the room, the mood changes and a smile appears on everyones’ faces. I can truly say that I have never seen him in a bad mood, and his happiness radiates to everyone he meets.
If this decision that the school board made doesn’t change, I will be 100% furious in a school district that I am proud to be a part of. This can truly shake apart our music department in the middle school, and I hope our district is able to see that.

Please reinstate Mr. Griffith to his position. I can not understand how a school district or any of its administrators can come to a decision like this, whether in the name of cost-cutting or not. I have never seen a more dedicated teacher in my life. If I had been an orchestra student when I was in middle school (and not band), I would have loved having Mr. Griffith as my teacher/instructor. As an aside, somehow thinking that the band instructors can cover the orchestra side of things in the aftermath of this change is totally delusional. In an era of artificial turf and ever-increasing administrative salaries, you would think the district would get something like this right; at least for the kids. It is all about the kids, isn’t it? Right? Please reverse the decision and reinstate Mr. Griffith.

Make music a priority!!!! Band and orchestra teachers are not the same. Batavia has long been know as a district that supports music...don't stop now. Very sad.

This is a bad decision. Our band and orchestra teachers all across BPS are among the hardest working individuals in the district. Eliminating this position is going to overwhelm the already busy band teachers, as well as put those students in orchestra at a disadvantage by not having a dedicated director.
