I was going to wait to tell my child this news. But it looks like I have to tell him before spring break. This is devestating. Chris Griffith is the epitome of “above and beyond” when it comes to educating his students. He truly loves his job. It is so very evident in everything he does. He absolutely turned my son’s life around. He encouraged my son beyond the extent of a typical orchestral education. Because of Chris Griffith’s encouragement and guidance, my son is composing incredible music and has won a composition competition. He has composed so many works for his fellow Rotolo students, as well as ones he hopes to enter into further competitions. But his joy for delving ever deeper into music and really working to understand all of the theory and challenges Chris Griffith poses to him is something that would not have happened without this exemplary teacher. I am broken-hearted about having to break this news to my son in the morning. Please don’t do this. How can you not know what you have in Chris?! If you truly knew, you would never let him go.

I was his principal at Grande Reserve in Yorkville. Chris is one of the most talented and student centered orchestra teachers I’ve known. Teaching children how to play stringed instruments is far removed from band with valves and reeds. Batavia, give your students an expert education in orchestra. Disappointed in the lessening of your educational program in this area and of Batavia SD as a whole with this decision.

Mr. Griffith has a very great heart for the kids and his Job. He does this because he loves to be with kids and loves music. He doesn’t do it for the money. No matter what, Mr.Griffith can never be replaced.

Orchestra and Band are not the same. If the money exists to pay a great orchestra teacher, there is no logic to this decision.
I keep trying to find the right words but I can’t find the correct words to convey what a HUGE mistake it would be to do this!! Chris is an inspiration to his students!!

Orchestra is and always has been an important part of the education program for our Batavia fine schools. When we have good conductors, we need to keep them. Music is extremely important in developing our students .

Mr Griffith inspires kids every day with his love, passion and excitement for orchestra. BPS has struggled with keeping quality orchestra teachers for the past 9 years my kids have been with the program & now they get rid of the brightest light the program has seen in years.

Please do not jeopardize our excellent music programs with this awful decision. Our Batavia music students deserve so much better. Music Buffs support helped make the athletic field a reality. Please show our musicians and music teachers the same respect for this critical part of their education.

As a former colleague of Chris, I can only say the greatest things about him. He’s an accomplished musician and wonderful educator, but his real strength lies in his passion for cultivating a love for the arts in his students!
