Who decided that music has less importance than sports? Can I decide what activity I’d prefer to spend my tax dollars on? Because I have a pretty good idea where I’d make cuts. Reinstate Mr. Griffith!

Why on earth would Batavia decide to do this? Mr. Griffith is a fantastic orchestra teacher. Music is the thing Batavia does the best. Say goodbye to your fantastic orchestra program in high school because having a dedicated teacher in middle school isn't the same as not. Also, how is band supposed to deal with losing part of their teaching staff to teaching orchestra? Music teachers are paid so poorly in Batavia anyway compared to others I have no idea why BHS feels the claim that is decision is saving money is actually convincing. Instead, this seems like a strategic move to weaken the program, so further cuts to the arts won't get as much parent pushback as the other recent attempt to decimate the program. The music program, and specifically the orchestra program, is one of main reasons we stayed in Batavia. Hiring Mr. Griffith was one of the best personnel decisions made by the school. He is a dedicated teacher who throws all of his energy and talent into the classroom and community. I hope you find the money in the budget to reverse this ill-conceived decision. Because this doesn't seem to actually be about money but rather it is just a bad administrative decision aiming to reduce student and parent resistance to continued decimation of the Arts in Batavia.

Cutting down the music program is the stupidest thing Rotolo could do, especially because they are always bragging about their exceptional music program. Plus Mrs.Griffith has too many icon quotes to leave. He is the best music teacher I have ever had and made me continue orchestra throughout middle school. But what do you expect,,, #ThatsRotolo

The amount of time that Mr. Griffith (and all orchestra teachers) have put into this music program is vastly under-appreciated. To lose a teacher that cares grately for his students, and understands the importance of orchestra/music in a developing child, to lose them I must say the board is making a big mistake. I cannot reiterate how important and how valued these teachers are to the students. They are taught professionalism through these groups and for some it gives them a joy outside of rigorous academics. I went through the Batavia music program myself and loved it. Please do not take that away from the younger students. Having an actual orchestra teacher makes a huge difference as they went through and fully understand what working in a stringed ensemble is like.

This school board needs to be replaced. From cutting Mr. Griffiths position, the HS Astro Turf, to the handling of the transgender issue, the present School Board clearly does not have the best interests of all the students. Also keep in mind that the Contract with the Union is up on 6/30/19. We need new people with qualifications from the private sector that will help Batavia's School District 101. That is why I am supporting Dr. David Niekamp a Clinical Psychologist and Christopher J. Solfa, Doctor of Jurisprudence. We need to bring back reality and common sense for our children in Batavia.

Ever since my grandaughter joined orchestra they have been cutting expenses and ignoring the orchestra program for years. They put more emphasis on athletics and band and leave orchestra in the mud, barley even to support itself. Mr. Griffith was that ray of sunlight at the end of the tunnel. He gave parents like us a hope for the future of Batavia Orchestra. But now they're closing the tunnel. We need him for our music program so our kids can learn the importance of Music and orchestra

A strong music program cannot exist without proper support, staffing and teaching. This decision to replace the orchestra teacher by having a band teacher pick up his class load will not only damage the orchestra program, but the band program as well.

I know many incoming 6th graders that love music, if this happens than they won’t enjoy it and won’t do it in high school!
