We moved to Batavia 16 years ago because it had an excellent school system. The orchestra, band and choir combined gave every child that wanted to an opportunity to develop his musical Talent. I believe the successful music program and the students overall high GPA'S are related. There are many studies that indicate this. The middle school is the first touch for most of the potential musicians. If they don't have positive experience, you lose them. You can't just put a band teacher in as an orchestra teacher replacement. You wouldn't want your proctologist taking out your kids tonsils would you? But , they're both doctors.

The Rotolo orchestra program has been an example to other districts for decades. Do not undo the excellent legacy and undercut the students learning by cutting corners.

Even though I’m in band I think if they cut a teacher it should be 1 of the 3 band teacher not the 1 orchestra teacher that specializes in orchestra or cut a PE teacher we don’t need 6

How can we replace Mr. Griffith? Simply put, we can't. But more egregiously, he is being replaced with people who do not know how to play any strings! They are all band (brass, wind, percussion) teachers. They do not know how to fluently read the clefs the orchestra uses. It is like going to a opthamologist for your heart disease. If there was ever a case against tenure, this is it. And it is not the first time this has happened to our orchestra program. It is not a coincidence that band is closely tied to sporting events and therefore more valued by this administration. I am heartbroken to lose such a wonderful teacher. I am grateful that my daughter is in 8th grade, and has had the full benefit of his teaching. Current 5th, 6th and 7th graders will be visiting eye doctors for their angina!

I think this is a tremendous loss for the entire music department both Band and Orchestra. Mr. Griffith has helped me improve my violin skills greatly. He is fun and a great insperation to all students who have him . I hope the Board changes there decision.

You honestly can’t just replace a teacher like mr Griffith. I can’t even describe in words how AMAZING he is! I would be in tears more then I already was when I heard the news if you let him go. No band teacher can replace an amazing orchestra teacher who we are blessed to have, you shouldn’t just throw your gifts in the garbage!

My brother has Chris Griffith as a teacher currently and that teacher is dedicated to the students, friendly and really good at his job and I think he should be reinstated

Mr.Griffith is an amazing teacher who helped me improve a ton in orchestra and showed all his students how cool and amazing music is. Mr.Griffith helped so many students, myself included, make it through middle school. I would not be where I am today without Mr.Griffith.

This is my second time commenting but, I’m so happy that the petition blew up like it has. It always starts with a few people then grows and grows. Everyone’s comments are just emphasizing the fact that if Mr. Griffith is let go, then there will forever be a hole where he once stood.
I am a sophomore at Batavia and I was in eighth when he first came to Batavia. He was able to open our eyes to so many new oppurtunities with orchestra. He also brought so much enthusiasm to class everyday. He was so eager to teach us and just talk to us everyday. He’s an above and beyond teacher and human. I hope everyone truly understands how much of a loss this is and I hope they reconsider. #KeepArtsAlive
