There is every reason to appreciate and support her, and no reason to stop her from dancing. She isn't hurting anyone, or causing anyone to be injured in any way. If someone finds her conduct distateful, that is their problem!

It has always made me happy to see Kathleen dancing. My daughter, who is 10 and attends Grove Community School, also loves to see her, too. She sparks joy in those around her, and helps create connection, along with doing her job in a very competent way. Her supervisors have asked her to stop dancing so she doesn't distract people. Isn't that what she's supposed to be doing - catching attention to stop traffic? I suspect it has more to do with control and our culture's difficulty with freedom of expression, individuality, and joyfulness just for the sake of it. Let her dance!! :)

What I know to be true is the opposite of the uncontextualized critique being made of Kathleen. She has only ever kept me and my children safe, on a high traffic street. I'm grateful for her willingness to do this work -- and she does it with confidence and competence. She has kept a watchful eye on my little one as he approaches the road with little person abandon, going above and beyond the call of duty, and making it safer for us on Dufferin. She has done all of this while also building community and making people happy. Amazing.

The police have said their decision is based upon how distracting Kathleen's dancing can be to the drivers. Personally, I'm distracted by those flashy lights police have on top of their cars...yet I'm able to keep my focus on the road where it belongs. The responsible for safe driving lies with the person controlling the vehicle.

A grey city where everybody stands still is not a safer city. Dufferin Ave is a dangerous place for pedestrians and Kathleen is a harbour of safety. Banning her from dancing is a travesty: moving on the job is just one of the many reasons she's a GREAT crossing guard. Don't punish her for being fantastic at her job!

Kathleen is good at her job. She helps people (kids especially) get from A to B safely. I see her job skill every time I cross Dufferin St in the morning. She also happens to have amazing muscial taste and rhythmic style. I don't see the problem here.
