My children do not go to this school and I would not want them to have to go to a school that wants to take away ALL things that I grew up and luckily enough my children go to a school that believes in having fun concerts, dress up(Halloween), and treats for holiday parties/ birthdays. Every student that wants to participate gets 1 holiday for the year so that only 4-5 treats are being brought in. Also 1 is a drink, 1 veggie tray, 1 fruit tray, the other two are treats like popcorn, cupcake,or a cookie. No harm in that. Unfortunately all my nieces and nephews go to this school and it's VERY disappointing for them to hear their cousins talk about how much fun they had a school on these days. To the principal at this school do you not remember being a child and having fun?? If not I feel bad for you but don't take it away for everyone else!!

The students who attend your school should want to be there to be apart of the school and school spirit! If not they can go somewhere else! Perhaps have a school where the offended people can send there children where they can make up there own rules!!! My parents sent me and paid for me to go to a private school as this was there beliefs... They didn't ever dream of sending me to a free school and change all there rules! People need to Stand up for what we believe !! For our traditions and out way of life for generations!

I was there for 10 years and being able to bring stuff on my birthday, wear my costume on Halloween, and do the Christmas concert were the hi lights of my year, can't believe they're taking those things away

went to this school for 8 years and the best years of my life as a kid came from the events we did at this school and all my old elementary teachers are still working there. Its a shame to hear what is going on there now

Let kids be kids. These are important little events that children look back on and remember. These little things are a few reasons why school is fun; it gives children something to look forward to go and why they attend school. Engaging in positive events are crucial to a child's overall development no matter how small. It saddens me to see everything that is changing so rapidly within our society and more specifically our community. Children are missing out on more and more now a days. Let them have their 5 seconds of laughter and excitement.

When our son began JK at OLF in 2011 we couldn't have had a more positive experience. It was a welcoming environment for parents, and children wanted to be there. We heard weekly stories about the principal playing soccer with the kids or having running races with them at recess. There was excitement for Halloween, Christmas concerts and bazaars, dance-a-thons, and fun end of the year class trips etc. It is extremely disheartening to learn that the fun school culture no longer exists and the memorable school experiences that we grew up with, will not be enjoyed by our children. These years will go by quickly. Let them have some fun.

This is honestly ridiculous. They are children, they need to enjoy the time they spend at school while they still can. Not letting kids wear a costume to school is just messed up. I would understand if the costumes weren't school appropriate but, they are kids highly doubt that they aren't appropriate for school. I also know that they took away the grade 7 & 8 trip. My brother was extremely disappointed and i know some parents were as well when they found out they couldn't go on this trip. This principle not allowing theses kids to do anything but work is just plain childish. THEY ARE JUST KIDS, FUN SHOULD BE INCORPORATED IN EDUCATION. DONT RUIN THESE YEARS FOR THEM.

This whole situation is pathetic. The school needs to lighten up and let kids be kids. They grow up so fast they need to enjoy there time in elementary school because they have many years of serious education in front of them. Making elementary school fun during certain occasions will not hinder their learning..

How can a costume be unsafe for a child to wear? Need to encourage children's growth in all stages of development including creativity, self-esteem. Self- discovery, arts and culture, music, sports, etc. Self expression is sooo important. These children will dictate our future.

The spirit and reputation of the school have changed so much. This is our kiddos childhood, their school is their community and their 'school family'. Very sad to see this amazing school have a negative feel to it.

Lets let the kids have some fun again. Allow the parents and grandparents to enjoy the memories of plays, treats and costumes.
P.s. some grass on the field would also be a good start. Weeds and dirt is not a good look to our new school. This is a request from my kids.

I couldn't agree more with all of these posts. It's upsetting to think that all the fun and traditions we've all known for so long have been eliminated from our lovely school. It'd be nice to have all the things, that Michelle posted early, back in our school. It's what makes it a community, a family and not just a school.

I have so many wonderful memories of these times from my childhood. I would hate for my own children to miss out on these memorable experiences!
Why?
