We, the undersigned residents, parents, and community members of Spalding County, GA, respectfully request that the Spalding County Board of Education implement a Bible History and Literacy Elective course in our public high schools.

This course would be **academic—not devotional—**and would follow Georgia’s legal guidelines under OCGA § 20-2-148, which permits public schools to teach the Bible’s influence on history, culture, literature, law, and the arts.

Understanding the Bible as a foundational text is essential to grasping the full scope of:
• American history and civil rights movements
• Classic and modern literature
• Legal and ethical frameworks
• Artistic and musical works

We believe this course would enrich our students’ education, promote critical thinking, and offer a non-sectarian space to explore the Bible’s historical and cultural significance.

✍️ Petition Request (To School Board):

We hereby petition the Spalding County School Board to consider and approve the introduction of an elective Bible History and Literacy course in local public high schools, in accordance with Georgia law and U.S. constitutional guidelines.

We urge school administrators to:
1. Review the Georgia Department of Education’s Bible Literacy elective guidelines.
2. Survey student interest in the course.
3. Allow interested teachers to be trained in presenting this material in a non-devotional, academic manner.

Let’s offer students the opportunity to study one of the most influential texts in world history with academic integrity and constitutional respect.
