This petition is an effort to demonstrate to Linden Lab the desire of its subscribers, all of whom in one way or another pay Linden Lab, to see the reinstitution of avatar last names. Since November, 2010, new subscribers have only been limited to selecting a single-word username, whereas those who signed on before then could select a first name and then from a list choose a last name (and before that, new users could select both names). The creativity of SL users is amazing, but the severe limitations of the current SL username (only letters and numbers, max of 31 characters) dramatically hamper that creativity. Linden Lab, we the undersigned formally request that you develop the necessary code to allow new users to select last names at signup. We leave the method you choose and the selection of available last names to you. We furthermore formally request that you develop the necessary code and policy to allow users with a single name to choose a new avatar name and either rename their existing account or fully migrate all inventory, property and rights to the new account. We make this request as revenue-providing customers of Linden Lab.
