The church's action sends a larger message to the younger generation in the U.S. The church has to be agile and nimble to the changing context in order to remain relevant to the generation that grows in the United States. This decision to ex-communicate a passionate servant is illogical, erroneous, disturbing, and revealing of the church's controlling and patriarchal core.

The second priest from North America is working in Episcopal Church for more than five years. If my understanding is right, Mar Thoma church did not excommunicate him or his family so far. Now we can see there are two types of justice in Mar Thoma church. Please make an investigation and make a discussion about the injustice of the church leadership.

We have to be very careful when we
release an achen who is a US citizen.
In my opinion they are precious to the young generation and future of our church in US. Please take him back.

Let Roy achen continue his Lord's ministry in other place. Let him lead a peaceful life. Here we will get another achen. He might be good or bad. Of course, there are a lot of weeds among them. If he is bad let us suffer. No other way. This is mar thoma church.

North American Disease leadership is acting as deaf. They don’t care about any priest or the future of the youths in US. How to pump US dollars to India is their only aim. Supports of Roy achen could do one thing. Don’t give anything as donation to the church when church leaders approach. Give publicity for it and keep in your mind. Then the church leaders will re- think about the injustice.

Roy Achen and family have been a great source of strength, love, and encouragement to me personally and within the Mar Thoma Church. Never have I witnessed Achen behave in a way that is contradictory to the teachings of the Mar Thoma Church or disrespect the fellowship of our parishes.
Achen's excommunication from the Church appears to be a hasty reaction to a simple request. The number of lives Achen has touched throughout his ministry, the youth (including myself) that he has encouraged and brought closer to both our Church and our Lord far outweighs whatever perceived misconceptions about Achen's request to be posted in Dallas.
It is really discouraging and deeply saddening to hear that an Achen of Roy Achen's standing is treated with such blatant disregard for both Achen and his young family as well as the people that they have so sincerely served. Losing Achen will only serve to distance the youth of our Church if not the older generation. Bring back Roy Achen.

In this forum “anonymus”says orthodox priests have other jobs when they are serving as a priest. It is true. But they are only getting a minimum salary from their church. Mar Thoma priest are not like that. They live a luxurious life here. Our church provides A-Z things for them. Plus members of the sevika sangam are giving other things to them off the book. They want to butter them. Most of our clergies and their wives are clever enough to exploit it too. (Not talking about Roy achen, only generalizing). If our church give permission to work outside, it won’t be a wonder if we see our priests in the gas stations pumping the gas and in other shops. I am sure that our church members will find out these types of jobs for them. The church ministry will be a part time job for them if they get permission for other job.
Commitment is important. I know most of our clergies have good education and they will get other jobs if they want. Before choosing this profession, they clearly know the commitment and practical difficulties. Why did they accept this job? They know that this profession gives them more respect and social status. So work accordingly.
I don’t’ understand why everyone is asking to bring back Roy achen. Roy achen is a human being and he had suffocation in our church. Let him be free and live happy. Mar Thoma Church is functioning this way. If anybody wants to go with him they have also the freedom to choose the church they want. Otherwise follow the rules and regulations and stay here.

To all the negative "anonymous" comments on this page, reminding you that there are two sides to any story. There perhaps may have been a reason to why Achen had to look for a position out of the church so while the Kalpana stated what happened, the Church didn't think twice of humiliating Roy Achen and his family who have served the Church faithfully over these years. A member of the clergy is being cornered here and the Church ought to practice the values of Christianity that is preached all across the world on Sunday mornings. While Achen was looking for another position, he had no intentions of leaving till at the end of his term. This petition voices the concerns of the process within the Church. Let's not forget that the Church is an organized institution which runs on the donations where politics and power is the name of the game. Is this the Church we want to be a part of where the basic Christian values of compassion isn't practiced ?

It should be fair to allow the achen to look for a job outside his serving parish. Orthodox achens are allowed to do so. I don't see anything wrong in it. It's quite an inhuman act meted out to the achen and his family. May God be with him and his family during these trying times and give him and his family justice!

Roy achen applied for an another job, it is common in any career, In this case Achen may have disagreements with Therumani or may not like the polices towards youth in USA. Therumani can terminate the Achen's job with Mar Thoma church but why you gave the negrive reference to the. Prospective employer. Achen could sue the therumani for screwing his life.
I am working in human resource and we never do that to a previous employee. It is a shame on the Mar Thima Church.

This is the problem with the terrible leadership... They have caused you to believe whatever they want and have probably taken things out of context.. Would you change your opinion if you knew that achen actually asked to leave after his assignment was done in 2 years? Giving them enough notice and not abandoning anyone? For any job, that is more than a common courtesy and the response? Leave immediately and take your family to the streets... Oh i will be "merciful" and grant you one week to uproot your home.. Ridiculous behaviour for a business, forget a church!
