Bring back our kettles!

I completly agree with the water ban. GlobalDATA is my kind of totalitarian regime. The senior management is too soft, they should also replace all toilet cubicals with simple shopping bags. Also please consider selling air at a flat rate of £1.25/sq mt.

I'm in the Manchester office, and stand wholeheartedly behind this petition

At a time when staff morale is extremely low, this really is the icing on the cake. First of all, the general lack of communication surrounding the office move has been unacceptable, secondly the almost subzero temperatures in the new workplace and finally the inability to provide employees with basic necessities. I am pretty sure that freezing temperatures in the office are against the Health Service Executive regulations rather than having a simple kettle and fridge. This company needs to start valuing it’s employees ASAP and showing some common decency by providing these basic utilities.

Freely accessible hot water is among the basic needs in an office environment, especially in the JCH office that can be often too cold to maintain good efficiency at work. Over the past week, the productivity of the London team has been negatively impacted because staff often needed to queue at the cafeteria or to leave the building to get hot drinks. Extra spending on food and drinks because of the lack of kitchen facility has caused/is expected to cause a financial burden on staff members, especially on those who used to bring in lunch from home. ps. I am not able to get a cup of tea after the cafeteria is closed at 5pm (or earlier?), while my normal working hour is until 6pm. The only tea option in the vending machine is tea with milk- I am lactose intolerant.

We have also had some excellent comments below, especially ones regarding the Health and Safety Executive. It is clear that something is not right and it seems that our employer is trying to pull the wool over our eyes on this matter. This is a company that announced a year ago that there would be significant investment in the analyst talent. You outdid yourselves didn't you? After SO many complaints regarding the Hatton Garden building, THIS is your response to them? Depriving the already disheartened analysts of the ONLY perks they had in an already poor workplace? But hey, look! There is a well swanky entrance that we cannot use but can deceive our clients into thinking we are part of an established and respecful company. (NOT!)

In addition, International Labour Organization R102 - Welfare Facilities Recommendation, 1956 (No. 102) states that the facility should provide " (a) a room in which provision suited to the climate is made for relieving discomfort from cold or heat; (b) adequate ventilation and lighting; (c) suitable tables and seating facilities in sufficient numbers; (d) appropriate appliances for heating food and beverages; (e) an adequate supply of wholesome drinking water". I believe all employees need to have a place where they can comfortably and safely eat their meals and rest during their work hours including nursing mothers.

According to the Health and Safety Executive and the Trades Union Congress 's "Your health, your safety: A brief guide for workers", we have a right "to be consulted on matters related to your health and safety at work". I consider that not allowing employees appropriate access to hygienic dining facilities compromises their health in long term. In addition, the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 sections 63 to 79 requires employers to provide "hygienic facilities for preparing and eating meals while at work". Kettles, microwaves, fridges, tables, and utensils..etc certain items should be provided at this work place.

Sorry that the London colleagues had to start a petition for such basic needs. These are definitely basic necessities for people to stay productive, I hope kettles, a microwave and a fridge could be provided ASAP.

There's no reason as to why simple and basic necessities can't be provided. The UK is not a third world country.

Although I am based in the Burlington office, I fully support this petition lodged by my colleagues in the London office. A kettle, microwave and a fridge are the basic necessities of a workplace and should be provided asap!

I think our employers really need to appreciate this unanimous feeling of unhappiness. Living, working, and travelling in London is ridiculously expensive, especially compared to other cities. This is not simple moaning, these are genuine concerns and if simply ignored (like everything else seems to be) there is most certainly going to be a sudden surge in resignations. I might also add that we were not given a month's notice of the office move, as stated in our employment contract.

I also support this petition. Buying hot drinks/food over the past week and a half has already had a considerable effect on my monthly budget. This is exacerbated by the expensive local shops here, unlike at the Hatton Garden office. We have a nespresso machine sitting in the new office, which was purchased by the analysts, including the capsules required to make coffee, at no expense to the company, can we use it? Hopefully this can be resolved as soon as possible. When we first moved over to the new office we were told this was a non-negotiable health and safety issue. As we can see from the links from the HSE posted in the comments, this is not accurate.

It is certainly not too much to ask for a kettle, microwave and a fridge- all things that every other office considers as basic facilities. This has disrupted and upset everyone, and has only resulted in increased costs for us due to having to buy lunch/hot drinks every day- and extra time to go out and get them. The argument that we can get coffee/tea in the vending machines or the 'canteen' can only come from someone who does not know what an acceptable cup of coffee/tea tastes like! And this clearly discriminates against anyone wanting to drink a different type of tea or hot drink. Given how cold this office is, we need to be able to make hot drinks. How can a kettle be too much to ask for, it would make a huge difference to everyone's morale at the moment- something you would hope this company would value.
