In the year 2014, the Kenyan government restructured the national youth service (NYS) programme to include community cohorts who do not need paramilitary training. The main aim was to help curb the rising issues of unemployment among the Kenyan youth.
As a result of these community cohorts programs,
- Over 50% of the youths in Nairobi's urban settlements were engaged
- The culture of saving among the youth were inculcated due to the formation of Savings And Credit Co-Operatives (SACCOs).
- Youths received income that reduced of incidences of crime and crime-related deaths, idleness, and drug and substance abuse..
We are therefore, calling upon the Cabinet Secretary for public service, youth and Gender and the Director-General of National Youth Service to:
- Bring back the NYS Community Cohorts.
- Create NYS monitoring offices in each constituency for easy youth access and follow up.
- Have alternative youth projects that can accommodate unemployed graduates.
- put in place strong sanctions to curb corruption.

Wale vijana wako idle mtaa ni wengi. This thing should be back to avoid the devil's workshop.
We need this job back to save our youths from dying prematurely deaths because of stealing and hunger.
NYS was a ray of hope for many youth that gave them livelihood. Bring back NYS!
Bring back NYS Community Cohorts, youths need opportunities not Confrontations and being used as subjects of Violence. Alternative livelihood is very instrumental if we really want to solve the big youths Qiestion.
Mradi inafaa irudi mtaa.. we all need a clean environment... For us all and especially our children
If youth issues are not addressed strategically it will soon overwhelm the states ability to solve many social ills arising from failure to attend to it.
The youths hold the future of our nation. They need to be empowered with all means possible.
