Teachers do not give up rights to an expectation of privacy. While it is possible depending upon the situation that she could be reprimanded for not supervising students, in this case her privacy was violated and a young man who should have known better posted lascivious content on the Internet. He should be held accountable for his actions.

Lead by example: don't punish the victim, punish the bully

The student knew what he was doing? Or is he in K-3rd grade? He knew it was wrong he thought he was being smart. Her phone is the same as her wallet or purse and it's off limits.

Unacceptable. They should replace the superintendent for failing to do his job.

So wrong to fire this woman!

I suppose if that student had stolen those photos from her personal lap top computer, car, or home, that wouldn't have mattered? Nice to blame the victim. You are a horrible human being that shouldn't be holding a job with public responsibility.

The people who made the decision to fire the teacher and not punish the teacher are the ones who should be ashamed and forced to resign.

The idea that someone should be punished for what a thief does with something which is perfectly legal is just outrageous. Unpunish this teacher!

Stop blaming teachers for students' bad behavior! Teachers are allowed to have lives outside of school, and Mrs. Arthur is the victim of a crime, and should be treated as such!

SERIOUSLY?

While I am appalled at the student's behavior, I am absolutely disgusted with the Superintendent's. There is absolutely no reason for Mrs. Arthur to lose her job over this.

David Eubanks is disgraceful and should feel ashamed that he is teaching the children of his school that when they commit a heinous act, it's the victim's fault. He disgusts me.

The student should be jailed for stealing her phone. What she does in her personal life is none of the student's goddamn business, nor the school district's goddamn business. The superintendent can kiss my ass for forcing the "I quit" situation to happen to a simple picture that was taken OUTSIDE of business hours.

It is a miscarriage of justice that this woman lost her job because someone stole her personal property and illegally forwarded a private photo.

This is the problem with the system in today's society. If it had been a male teacher I wonder if the punishment would have been the same. Shame on that school district

I am married to an educator & former school board chairman. Assigning no blame whatever on the party who STOLE HER PHONE & trolled through it TO VIOLATE HER PRIVACY is bad enough. WHY is she being fired when these private items were only made public BY THE THIEF? I'm confused!

As a middle school teacher in Northen VA I find this absolutely disgusting. Typical superintendent (politician) that maybe taught 30 years ago is out to ruin careers for some personal reason. When this student is charged and found guilty you will look like even more of a fool then you do now.

Completely ridiculous she was fired and that the student was completely let off.

Violation of her privacy and a criminal act.
