To any logical, rational mind, the way ahead is clear: reinstate the lady, punish the student appropriately, and move on. But, of course, the supervisor's ego cannot admit to an error in his judgement, so a needless and stubborn position will be adhered to.

I have been an educator for over 20 years in an urban district. You are wrong, wrong, wrong to have fired this teacher for being a victim of theft and cyber assault! The student should have been charged with a crime!! Be an adult and a responsible administrator and reverse your decision! You are wrong!

The problem with out society is we never fully place blame on the responsible parties. This kid stole information that wasn't his. He needs to be held accountable. Shame on the school district.

The actions of the School in this case are not only backwards and wrong, as regards their treatment of the teacher, but their lack of action towards the student -- not holding him accountable for his ILLEGAL actions -- are shocking in their irresponsibility. If this student had committed a similar act of stalking, bullying, and cyber-crime against a fellow student, would the school have similarly cast the blame on the victim? This is UNACCEPTABLE from a school! The student needs to be severely punished by the SCHOOL, not just the law, and the teacher should be re-hired. She should NEVER have been blamed for what happened!!

Depressing. I am a teacher. Hold me accountable for my students' test scores if you must. Hold me accountable to any number of initiatives that make students learn better, but don't hold me accountable for another student's uncontrollable behavior.

I teach 8th grade in Montreal, and a student of mine stole my phone. He denied it, even though we had it TRACKED to his parents' house. I got it back a month later.
This SAME student has gone on to bully students online and in school, start fights, has uttered death threats, he constantly disrupt class and EVEN filled another teacher's water bottle with TOILET WATER (she was PREGNANT at the time)...
He's been suspended too many times to count. Why he is still a student in my school, I will never truly understand.

Even 16 year olds are responsible for their own actions and blaming a teacher for trusting her students with her phone, is ludicrous. It's so hard to find good teachers, they are unfairly paid, and unfairly treated in this case.

This is quite honestly the saddest event I have ever seen a school board responsible for. You face continually reduced budgets, a growing lack of qualified teachers who still actively engage their students, increased pressure and demand from parents expecting you to raise their children, and this is what you do? You punish and shame a teacher for her privacy being invaded. What if she had not been a teacher? What if she worked in an office? What if she was a retail employee? What if she was a male teacher instead? Each one of those would have had drastically different outcomes. Yet this, THIS is what you've elected to do. Great examplevthete folks.

Very sad that in this day and age, the teacher is the first to be blame. If a student is failing, it's the teacher's fault. If a student's misbehaves, it's the teacher's fault.
