The student should be facing charges not the teacher. what lesson did you back woods education system teach that boy? that he can manipulate and sexually harass women. that school district official should be named to contributing to the delinquency of that boy. SUE tat school district, leave NC and get a great job

Punishing the victim is Orwellian and sets a bad example for the students.

Although it would be wise to have a screen lock on your phone, the teacher did nothing wrong to be forced to resign. The student should be held accountable by the school for his actions. If my home were left unlocked and someone walked in and stole from me wouldn't it still be a crime even though my door was unlocked?

She should not have been forced to resign, she has done nothing wrong, the student should be charged with theft and locked up.

This teacher should NOT be forced to resign, UNION COUNTY!!!!! Her phone was stolen, and the students took this information off of her phone!!! WHY are you not punishing the students???? Why are you not tossing them out of that school?? First, this was stealing!!!!!! The District needs to keep this teacher, and get rid of the students involved!!!!!

Why isn't the student being punished for taking the phone or distributing the pictures. As the case against Apple and the FBI is showing whats on your phone is private

The students at fault should be punished. They will learn the wrong message if they are given a pass here. Stealing and invading privacy are two big felonies! Also the unqualified super intendant who made the poor and illogical decision should be fired.

This is clearly an invasion of her privacy, and she should not have to resign because she was a victim of a crime. If anyone else stole someone's phone we'd be angry, but a student does it and we punish the teacher? Unreal!

That's incredible. Shame on that student. The decision to punish her is absurd.

Union has again made an impression on not only the nation, but the world. Union's best and brightest left town for the most part but some stayed on to make a difference. Leigh Ann is one of those best and brightest. Union does not deserve her, but I know she wants to continue making a difference..... UCHS would be lucky is she even considered coming back.

shame on that student and the school district. What was on her phone is her own business. She didn't send those pictures to anyone. The only thing she is guilty of is having her phone where this student could take it.

Disgusted at the school's blatant victim blaming! The student should be expelled, charges should be pressed, and the victim compensated for the crimes against her.

I am DISGUSTED by this situation! BLAMING VICTIMS OF SEX CRIMES NEEDS TO STOP! That student is a criminal and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law! He committed an egregious crime and SHE is the one being punished!? How is that even moral or logical?! Is that how he was taught to treat women? His parents should be ASHAMED of him! How would they feel if the tables were turned and someone did that to HIM?! Stealing and posting nude pictures of ANYONE - male or female - without permission constitutes theft, harassment, and assault!

Are you kidding me? The student stole the phone, then distributed private content. You're blaming, then punishing the victim.

I do not understand how Mrs. Arthur was forced to resign. From all accounts she did nothing more than leave her phone unsecured. I concur with her pursuing criminal charges against the student and then a civil suit against the student and school. She should have forced them to fire her so she could sue for unlawful termination. Good luck to her and her family.
