This is ridiculous - this is the equivalent of stealing items out of a purse. Good Teachers are so hard to replace. Shame on the administration that did not support her and discipline this young man, who is trying to ruin this woman's career. This is NOT ok. I hope she holds her head high, sues the school district, the young man, and the administrator - then straightens her tiara and goes right back to teaching school. She did nothing wrong.

Peeking into one's phone is obviously a breach of privacy, locked or unlocked. One wouldn't look into someone's house or bathroom stall merely because the door was unlocked. David Eubanks is an idiot and is making South Carolina look bad.

The student that stole the phone should be expelled and punished. If he sole from a store it would be treated different. Items in a store are left out in public with the assumption that theft of an item is THEFT!

Punish the kid for stealing the phone and distributing these photos to minors.

How disgusting that a student could do this to a teacher. Coming from a student at another high school far away, I couldn't even imagine if anyone did this to one of my teachers! She deserves to be brought back and that student should get HUGE fines for stealing personal pictures like that!!!

So this is the kind of school that lets students get away with stealing of peoples stuff and gets nothing but forces a teacher to quit her job. I say the punishment for the student should be expelled from the school let his parents home school the thief

This is a serious breach of privacy and the student responsible for stealing the photograph needs to be reprimanded.

The student should be prosecuted for theft, and should pay damages to Mrs. Arthur.

A kid stole her personal phone and you fire her? Shame on you. The student should be expelled and his family held financially responsible for her pain and suffering.

The teacher was the victim of this crime. She did nothing illegal. What if the photos were in her house and the student and walked in through an unlocked door and stole the pictures? Surely the the teacher would not have been asked to resign. Our phones are deeply personal, private extensions of our lives. Violations (such as stealing the phone and distributing photos) are equivalent to breaking and entering and thift and should be punished as such.

She was at fault for leaving her phone around in an age of technology, unpassworded yes. However the student who went over the boundaries of her privacy is also at fault. We shouldn't be teaching kids that they can do whatever they want and get away with it. The school saying she contributes to delinquency is wrong, it's the school that is doing so by just letting this kid off the hook.

...teacher did not compel student or distribute photo to student- phone was stolen with his/her free will.

Shame on the students and the district.

The only mistake Mrs. Arthur made was leaving her phone unlocked. Whereas, the student took her phone without permission, looked through it and stole data from it. And has received no punishment. Justice in American, at it's best.

Mrs. Arthur had a reasonable expectation of privacy, has not harmed a minor by her actions, has instead been the victim of theft by a student, the school should support the staff when the staff is in the right. This is an example of schools being insane. Do what is right, don't over think situations.

The 16 year kid should have his little pinky put on social media.

Sister, I am so sorry you had to go through this. This is not fair. I was an education major and will share that students are not held accountable as they should be. There is nothing wrong with an individual taking a picture let alone keeping it on their device. What you do is not others problem, nor anyone's business. That student had no right to go into your personal business and I feel that he and his parents should be held accountable. You should not have to resign or be slapped for this. You would have never allowed something like this to interfere with your position as a teacher. If that school or district thinks you're really that bad, perhaps people should keep their eyes on that school district and understand they must be just as bad..after all, they did hire you. They didn't deserve you. Prayers for you and your family. You deserve better!
