It is theft and hacking plain and simple if the same student got on the teachers school issued computer he would be expelled why not her cell phone he had no permission to access

Outrageous! The student should be prosecuted and the teacher should be apologized to. What has happened is exactly backwards of what should have happened.

This teacher had her privacy violated. The student who did this should be punished.

The student who stole this teachers property should be expelled. The teacher should not have been fired/forced to resign.

Leigh Anne, please call a lawyer (or multiple ones!) immediately.
The school has fired you after you were the victim of what was essentially a criminal act. I cannot imagine this is legal.
Even if they don't give you your job back, you will be OK. :)

The only suggestion I have for Ms. Arthur is to have your phone locked up in class or have a lock on the phone so students can't get into. But sometimes even when there are safeties in place there can be hiccups. What this student did is uncalled for and he and those who asked for/opened the pictures should all be punished. They are in high school and know right from wrong. they know that getting into their teachers phone and specifically going through her photos was wrong, invasive and disrespectful. I hope the parent of this teen knows- and has taken action. I think it is wrong that the school district has made her resign. There should have been an investigation of sorts. If I was her, I'd consider a lawsuit, not only against the school district, but against the teenager. Best of luck Ms. Arthur!

There is nothing illegal about having nude photos of oneself and Mrs. Arthur had a reasonable expectation of privacy in her personal phone. The student who invaded that privacy on the other hand broke several laws including theft and distributing pornographic material to minors. Not to mention simply violating this woman's privacy for his own amusement. How is it that this teacher was punished immediately and the school doesn't even know if any disciplinary action will be taken against the student now or in the future? You're not supposed to punish the victim of a crime.

The student is the one who committed this terrible wrong and should be severely expelled and punished. I hope she will sue the necessary people. Her life has been ruined by this arrogant student.

This teacher should not be punished for someone stealing her personal property and maliciously distributing its contents. The student should be punished.

Punishing the victim of a crime in any way is abhorrent. Mrs Arthur must be allowed to continue to do her job, and should be offered support and an apology from her employer as a bare minimum.

This is ridiculous, the student needs to be punished not the teacher.
This victim-blaming is beyond ludicrous.
