The reason the teacher was fired and the child not expelled is that the school administration is filled with cowards that should be fired instead of her

Even if she were offered her job back, I would not accept unless there was a change in administration. Students need to be taught by teacher AND parents that just because an item is visible & noone is around does not make it yours to take & pilfer through. They need a good hard lesson in respect. The student & admin alike! APOLOGIZE publicly to this teacher!

Teacher had right to privacy ....student had to search her phone for photos .......burglary comes to mind ......Student should be disciplined as well as charges for malice intent.

You are allowed to have an intimate relationship with your husband... what this student did is not acceptable, and what the school did is very unprofessional. The student should have been the one to get in trouble, clearly he had something against the teacher.

A sex crime was committed by a student against a teacher and the teacher was punished. This is egregious.

Terrible thing to happen. A teacher is the victim of a student invading her privacy, and then she is the one that is blamed. Terrible.

She Should have locked her phone, but in no way should she have been fired or asked to resign. This was entirely the student's doing of their own volition and they should therefore incur suffer the full weight of any penalties regarding the offense. Mrs. Arthur should be reinstated without prejudiced.
Before you go on about her moral character for having nude photos, don't; I am sure the superintendent and all the school board members have private lives and have even had sex at some point. How many of them have viewed adult material, all of them I bet ?

This is absurd. It's not even a gray area. Clearly, the student who stole private pictures is a bully and the teacher is the victim of sexual harassment. If he'd done the same thing to a fellow-student would the administration have expelled the student who was victimized and done nothing to the bully? I think not.

I am an administrator. I can't believe you would encourage children to steal from teachers and invade their privacy in this manner. This is also sexual harassment, and responsibility for this incident rests with the perpetrators, not their target.

There is such a thing as a "reasonable expectation of privacy", which includes your phone. If she had handed the boy the phone, there might be some argument, but when he STOLE the phone and invaded her privacy, the burden should be on the offending student, and not the victim.

Punishing the teacher is appalling. The student deliberately took her phone and was looking for trouble. What if the student had gone through her unlocked purse? Her unlocked car? Her unlocked house and found something similar? The student should be punished, not the teacher. I am a parent of high school and college age children and would never support punishing one of their teachers over this scenario.

The district superintendent should be ashamed for even thinking to justify or reverse rationalize the actions of the student who leaked Mrs. Arthur's photos. Adolescents and young adults are more than capable of distinguishing right from wrong, and this student's decision to act in such an invasive, passive agressive, and incredibly inappropriate and uncalled for manner is disgusting, and she should be reprimanded properly and to an extent consistent with her wrongdoing. Mrs. Arthur, nor any other teacher, should not receive consequences due to a child's blatant lack of judgement and absence of merit. I hope the superintendent and all other adults responsible for deciding the fate of both parties have good and judgement.

How incredibly stupid is that Superintendent? Back in my day (before Liberalism ruled the day), the kid would have been kicked out of school, prosecuted for theft, and pumped gas for the rest of his life. I hope that the teacher sues the school and retires in the Bahamas, sipping daquiris for the rest of her life.
