The way this was handled is absolutely unacceptable. It's absolutely lovely how understanding the involved parties are of the student who did this, honestly, because what he did was nowhere near OK. Even if Mrs. Arthur has forgiven him, this is the incident needed to realize the paths the student could be heading down. Unfortunately, it's never just about the people someone has already wronged, but also about those that could be, in the future. Actions need to be taken, before he ends up doing things way worse. This is the kind of thing you look back on later, wondering why no one saw the rest coming.
Even if Mrs. Arthur cannot be reinstated, she deserves this matter to be handled with respect for her. The way this ends will affect her career, and I sincerely hope she will get the justice she deserves and avoid the possible negative consequences.

Schools need to back up the teachers. I've heard students threaten other teachers about how they were going to get them in trouble. This is not an uncommon threat and the fact that the school let the student manipulate them this way is unacceptable. A persons phone is private and should not be accessed by anyone without permission. However students pick up my phone all the time without permission and are only stopped because of a passcode. If they took money out of my wallet without permission that is stealing. Even if my wallet is sitting in the open, that IS stealing. If a person were to steal anything of my personal property I may have the chance to get it back if they get caught or I'm just not getting it back. Yet I would never be punished because I couldn't get my stolen property back. A photo is private property unless shared on a public website or given to another person. This teacher did not send the picture to that student nor did she give him permission to take a picture of it. She doesn't NEED to have a passcode on her phone to make it any less of an act of theft. The school is punishing the teacher for having her personal property stolen and they are punishing her for not being able to get it back. What world down live in that the victim is punished for the crime done to them? It was inappropriate material and the school decided she should be fired for bringing inappropriate material to school. Fine. But to not even stand up for the teacher and discipline the student as well is shameful beyond words.

She is a great teacher and she deserves all the respect she can get. She loves her husband and it's nothing wrong with what she had in her phone. They was wrong and she is right.

Mrs Arthur is a great teacher and she deserves to keep her job; if she wants it still, and the boy needs to be expelled from school and have charges pushed against him. BRING BACK MRS ARTHUR!!

Wtf why is the school not expelling him and the police not charging the light fingered dubious young pervert with theft, slander, and most important a hate crime linked to getting him on the sexual predator list. If his father is in any sort of picture in his life, he needs to send that boy back to school with the upward swing of the right hand

The teacher was foolish to not protect herself and her information but that is not a crime, nor wrongful action as an instructor. The student, however, should have been expelled at minimum. She has every right to sue for invasion of privacy, defamation, and wrongful termination.

Absolutely ridiculous that the school would even consider punishing the teacher in this situation. The student should be disciplined and Mrs. Arthur should be reinstated and issued a formal apology.

We have to stop blaming the victims of instances such as these. Expel the student, and reinstate the teacher.

This is unthinkable. The student shouldn't have gone into her desk and taken her phone. She is not at fault.

Please teach young kids since evidently they haven't learned yet stealing and invasion of privacy is wrong instead of sending the opposite message.

The perpetrator should be suspended / expelled and face criminal charges. The administration of the school should be fired and barred from working in education for life. The teacher should be reinstated with back pay and punitive damages awarded.

If you allow this student to walk scotch free and this teacher's career to be ruined, you are supporting rape culture. This is victim shaming at it's finest.

These students should be expelled and criminally charged. It is outrageous that this teacher, who has dedicated 13 years to education, has been crucified by her own district. Absolutely appalling and shameful.
