Nothing about this outcome makes any sense at all. The last thing we should be doing is unfairly punishing quality teachers, when we already have so few! Teachers have a right to their private lives.

It's ridiculous that any action is taken against Mrs. Arthur for the contents of HER PRIVATE PHONE.

Nudes are basically normal now. Give the little jerk a months detention, and let the teacher back if she accepts a lesson on basic phone security because that really is a dumb thing to do.

I think the teacher should sue the school district and student.

Let's be clear - the teacher broke no laws. The student who took her phone stole it (one law broken), went into her phone and took data - the photo, and also disseminated it(second law broken). The teacher is an adult and has a right to expect her property will neither be stolen, broken into, and taken (without her permission). No teacher who brings a bike bag, briefcase, purse, or laptop to work expects different. The school's leadership should be investigated by the district for not holding the student accountable according to the law; and for firing a teacher who literally did nothing wrong.

It's a massive injustice to fire a teacher because someone else does something wrong.

The dismissal was clearly to save reputation for the institution and adds to the suffering of the victims. The pupils should be properly disciplined to avoid escalated future damage to the US public order.

I believe that the teacher has privacy rights. I also believe that she should contact an attorney. Respect the woman's privacy and don't hold her accountable for someone else's f#=&up. Each person is responsible for their own actions. Thief is not her fault !

If she had been physically assaulted would she now be being punished for owning a body?

A. She should be reinstated. B. The little douchebag student involved is already a delinquent. He entered her desk. Went through her phone and then sent out personal information. The school personnel backing him should be fired

Like the rest of us, Mrs. Arthur has a reasonable expectation of privacy in her personal effects. And a "privacy" that allows any THIEF to pick up your phone, purse, briefcase, or laptop, rifle through it, and then distribute any contents they find therein is not a privacy right at all. As Reason says: "Superintendent Eubanks seems to subscribe to the idea that "if you don't want naked pictures distributed, don't take naked pictures!"—a proposition that makes about as much sense as telling people who don't want their TVs stolen not to own TVs or those who don't want their cars damaged not to park them outside their garages. We don't say this, because we rightly perceive that the blame for stolen TVs or damaged cars lies with the thief or the bad driver, not the person who had the audacity to own a TV or a car in the first place."

This is absolutely horrid and just another example of shaming women. Hopefully the school will ultimately lose both in court of law and the "court of public opinion". And of course it's in a southern state!

Unfortunately this teacher trusted her students to stay out of her personal belongs..her purse.. Wondering though, what if he had taken her money or her credit cards would charges be filed against him? In retrospect, yes, she should password protect her phone, everyone should, but that is not something that is required by the school district is it? To be punished because someone DID SOMETHING TO HER is despicable! Reinstate her!

Mrs. Arthur doesn't deserve to lose her career thanks to the rudeness and disrespect of this student! Hope she is treated fair and with respect! Next time lock your phone !
