The teacher may be at fault but the student is largely to be blamed as the student was the one to steal her phone first.

I saw her story on the news this morning, and I could not agree with her more. The student should have been suspended/expelled for stealing the teachers belongings in the first place. These kids today are filled with self entitlement, and they need to be held accountable for their own actions. The student was not a child that didn't know any better, this is a High School student who should have learned long ago not to touch what doesn't belong to them. As far as I'm concerned if it were my child who had stolen someone else's phone there would be a punishment that would ensue. I do NOT think the teacher should have lost her job because this student took it upon his/herself to be a thief.

This is outrageous! The kid needs to be punished not the teacher!

As a teacher in another country and as a mother to a little girl, I do not want this world whereby women can be a victim and then made to feel like it was all their fault. How utterly ridiculous to blame someone for leaving a phone in an accessible place. The student shouldn't have gone anywhere near it and that is the stance the school and the school district should be taking.

This girl is ludicrous that private photo on a personal piece of property that was shared without explicit authorization from the property owner is resulting in the end of a career. What on earth are we trying to teach young people when the person wronged is persecuted and the person who committed the wrong sees no disciplinary action!

The victim is the one punished. The leadership needs to be changed there.

This is insane. While she should have had her phone locked, she had a right to expect privacy for her personal belongings.

Information on her phone is private property. Anything "stolen" from her is a crime against her. They are punishing the wrong person.

She is a victim, why is she being punished?

This was not her fault that a student took her phone without permission and invaded her privacy. This story moved me and hope she gets the reinstatement or compensation she deserves.

This teacher was a victim of a crime and was once again victimized by her employer.

This sacking is a typical action of a spiteful officious bureaucrat.

This is ridiculous why you had to resign! Good luck.

The blatant lack of action against the student is appalling. While I understand it wasn't the best choice of the teacher to leave an unlocked phone around students, the fact is her privacy, her personal belongings were accessed without her permission. The fact this student isn't facing any ramifications from this is just saying it was okay and allows potential for it to happen again. Charges need to be brought up against the student and the teacher needs to have her job position back.

I was brought up to touch only things that are yours and ask/receive permission to touch things that belong to others. Support the teacher, reprimand the student.

Punish the student and reinstate Mrs. Arthur. Those were between a husband and wife and none of anyone else business. Charge the student with larceny.......that's a violation of law not taking a private picture for your spouse. Stop being self righteous!!!

Even if she allowed kids to use her phone previously they didn't have permission that time. This is theft. The parents of that student should be demanding their son take responsibility and she be reinstated. Teachers have to monitor halls. This poor woman has already suffered. The student has no morals or conscious.
