I strongly hope her job is given back. She is a strong example of what victim blaming looks like.

Heard the story on the radio in VA this morning and it made me sick. Mrs. Arthur has done nothing wrong to deserve being punished. Sadly, if she were to return to work they'd most likely find another reason to terminate her just to be jerks. I hope this petition helps you and you get what you rightly deserve. Good luck ma'am.

Leave it to a dumb-ass, redneck southern "professional" to blame the victim.

The student committed theft. She's not at fault.

Really people? Must we continue to punish the victims of crimes because they don't fit our rigid moral code?

The teacher did nothing wrong! It is the student that invaded her privacy!

I think it is about time that the schools teach instead of punish the wrong ones and slapping the hand of the ones doing the wrong. The teachers phone is an extension of her. It belongs to her and no one should ever pick it up without permission. This is a theft that occurred. I feel that it is the same as if the boy had gone into the teachers private home and invaded her privacy. Let's teach responsibility. Suspend or expel the student to teach him wrong is wrong and you have to pay for your wrong mistakes. Just like taking a test. If the answer is wrong it is wrong. Further I feel that the teacher has a right and should follow up with charges of invasion of privacy and theft of property. Maybe this way he and others as well that might think this is OK will learn there actions have consequences. This teacher should be returned to her position as well as receive any back pay she has lost. If she is willing to return knowing that these pictures had gotten out and can face the embarrassment and live through it I say let's stand behind her and move on. As for the boy in question I think not only charges should be filed but I feel that all the other students should shun him until he does the right thing by this teacher. Forget peer pressure, this is real life and it hurts peoples lives. The School and the council should be ashamed and resign from their positions if they do not do the right thing.

...our country, the great United States of America, has gone completely mad. Give this woman her job back, and punish the boy with a week's worth of school clean-up duty. What has happened to my country?

I am appalled at the actions taken by the administrators so far, but not surprised. As it has turned out, teachers are an unprotected cohort in the school system, and will be scapegoated and sacrificed at every turn. Case in point: this blatant THEFT by the student(s) responsible SHOULD be the number one issue, AND their intrusion and desecration of the teacher's privacy. Instead, the teacher is blamed (as they are for students under-performing, when THE NUMBER ONE CRITERIA is socio-economic level of the student's family), and the THIEF is rewarded. I guess the administrators are simply teaching students the reality of modern society: thieves are rewarded, and the victims are blamed.

The teacher has a right to privacy. The student should be held accountable.

This school is not educating it's students responsibly nor displaying any professional loyalty. Educating means that the students are given the appropriate tools to conduct themselves in society. Taking someone else's possessions, especially one in a position of authority is unacceptable. Had the school made an error in judgement or poor choice, they would expect their faculty to stand behind them. Shame on this school and their administration. I hope the teacher sues them for damaging her reputation.

Student should be held responsible for his actions!
