This is case is outrageous. Students should be taught to respect other people's privacy and personal belongings. The teacher should not have to worry about a student accessing anything on her personal phone because it is personal. This situation highlights the coddling of students, blaming teachers and ensuring an entire generation grows up without learning to respect other people. She should be reinstated with an apology from the student and those who insisted she resign.

What had happened to your teacher is tragic and the wrong person is being punished. Her private life is just that: private. It did not interfere with her professional life. The person who stole from her needs to be punished with severe consequences. I am signing your petition even if it doesn't count because I'm a teacher all the way over in Arizona. I am proud of you all for using your power to make a difference, take s stand and be effective. Clearly, you've been taught well and value your education. Plus you are being kind and having courage. If we go not stand up for what is wrong we are accepting what goes on... Passive acceptance is not cool. So... Teacher speech over! Onward! Fight the good fight!

From the petition: "Another thing that you have to realize is that we have went to school with the student responsible for years, the intention of the petition is not to have him absolutely berated, but to have Mrs. Arthur reinstated, everyone makes mistakes."
Your intention should be to go back to English class and learn not to write run-on sentences. Yes, your teacher absolutely should have been made to resign or be fired. She brought porn into a school. She should count her blessings; at least she's not on the sex offender registry.
For that matter, the student who stole her phone may also find himself on the registry for distributing porn to minors. Why is your intention NOT to have him "absolutely berated"? He absolutely SHOULD be. His day of reckoning is at hand.

This kid should be punished!! I have had a teacher take my phone before, invade my privacy, text all of my contacts when I paid out of pocket for text messaging, and there were no consequences for the teacher. Even though there was no harm done, it is still considered an invasion of privacy and COMMON COURTESY. I felt wronged. Unless someone opens up to you with that information, it is no one's business but your own.

A male student invaded this woman's privacy she she is somehow being punished for it?
Unacceptable. She is a victim and the only person who committed any wrongdoing is the student who invaded her privacy publicly shamed her. He is the one who should be punished, along with anyone else who forwarded the message.

Taking a phone from a teacher's desk and rifling through it should be a clear violation of the teacher's right to privacy. Had the situation been reversed and it was the teacher who took the student's phone, I'm betting that anyone would believe that the teacher had violated his privacy. This is another shameful case of shaming the victim.
