Would you fire an employee who's car was stolen for leaving it unlocked?

Even though everyone makes mistakes, the teacher doesn't deserve to lose her job. The 16 year old was in the wrong as soon as he picked up someone else's property.

There is nothing wrong with a teacher having personal photographs on her personal handheld device. What is wrong is a student touching something that doesn't belong to him, access private information, and use it in a malicious manner. The student should be punished. The teacher should be reinstated and possibly reminded to lock their phone whenever it is left unattended.

I am proud to see these teens fighting for justice; recognize the real wrongs done here. I stand behind you all. Inspirational teachers are limited these days, so its important to hold on tightly to those left. I'm signing this from Ohio; your word, your goal is spreading and I wish you all and Mr. Author the best of luck.

Our society is too apologetic to the bad behaviors of our young people, and in turn we are creating monsters. Fair and level headed punishment is important, and denying repercussions for actions is not doing them any favors. The school board's response removes accountability from the perpetrator, and places it on the victim. It's important that kids learn early on that there is consequences for their actions. The teachers deserves her spot back, and the student in question should face consequences on several moral and legal grounds.

This is a sad state of affairs when quality educators are punished for the misbehavior of their students.

It makes me so proud to see students standing up for their teacher that was so clearly wronged. While the Board members' actions deeply sadden me, at least the students have given me hope that in the future we might live in a country where good, innocent people are no longer shamed and punished for their private, consensual sexual activities. Thank you, students, and keep fighting the good fight!

She has a right to her privacy. The kid shouldn't have been going through her belongings, had this have been another student, he would be getting in trouble, or had this have been her purse, he'd be getting in trouble. As a human, she has rights. She shouldn't have to have a pass code on her phone, that brat should know not to touch other people's pocessions.

Such actions cannot be shielded by a school board, especially when the student has so violated trust, privacy, and ethical conduct.

I go to Dorman High School and I heard about this yesterday. This is unacceptable. That teacher needs to get her job back and that student needs to be punished. Immediately.

Absolutely ridiculous that she gets fired and the student does not get punished.

Theft of personal and private property of any sort is a crime. The school district has made the ultimate decision not to punish the deplorable acts of a child, while punishing the innocent. Our education system is failing our children in more ways than one.

The teacher did nothing wrong. The student needs to be punished. This is tantamount to grabbing her wallet out of her purse and taking money. He invaded her privacy.

This teacher should be reinstated with an official apology from whoever fired her. This student was in the wrong. If the student had stolen money off the table or looked at other students grades he would have been disciplined.

This is simply an invasion of privacy.

Am I at fault if someone looks at the files on my open laptop and sends my private info tho people? No. That would be stupid. And so is this teacher's resignation. She didn't deserve to lose her career over this.
