This is absolutely appalling. That student should be expelled, or at the very least suspended for an extended period of time. Such would happen to a student going into a teachers desk. The privacy of the teacher as well as all of the students are at risk here. As for the content of her phone, that is no one's business but her own. And the fact that he stole and shared that image could be considered producing pornograghy and distributing it to minors. She deserves to be reinstated and compensated. And that ignorant boy needs some serious punishment.

Absolutely horrible. More than her privacy has been violated.

Utterly ridiculous situation for the teacher to put up with

The fault obviously lies with the student who stole her phone and invaded her privacy. He should be punished. Signing from KCMO

It's honestly ridiculous that she was forced into such a situation. The Superintendent obviously has no concept of "invasion of privacy" and should be the one disciplined.

The moment that student picked up her phone, he was in the wrong. Not locking something is not presenting it to students.

This is a 21st century world we live in and not one of punishing people for having their privacy invaded by criminals and miscreants. If you leave your house, like your phone, unlocked, that doesn't mean you should be punished when someone decides to break the law and violate your privacy. This is victim blaming pure and simple and cannot be allowed. Rehire and apologize to the teacher, and punish the student,

What happened to Mrs. Arthur was not right! Her personal property was accessed by someone who did not have the right to touch it. The whole situation is wrong and is not her fault!

The teacher should be rehired and the student should be punished with possible charged filed

The student who stole her phone is guilty of both theft and invasion of privacy. She is the victim, and the school authorities are guilty of really poor judgment - and then trying to deny it. She deserves to be re-hired and the authorities need to go back to school to learn the law....

This is ridiculous and I hope stories like this continue/get press about how unfair the system is.

Complete invasion of privacy. Student should be reprimanded severly.

The firing of the teacher shows both a lack compassion from administrators and a lack of understanding towards invasion of privacy.

So let me get this straight, teacher has phone with nudie pic. Student grabs phone, without permission, and proceeds to find said pic, infringing on her privacy. Yet, the teacher is punished while the student walks free? I'm insane now. I'd be willing to bet my life savings that those responsible for her dismissal have nudies on their phones.

Absolutely disgusting that the Student remains unpunished, absolute failure of the school. Teacher did nothing wrong, her private phone was broken into against her will.

I'm not from the US, but it feels very stupid that a teacher is being punished for a student's demeanors. If they are to expel anyone it should be the student.
