I've lent people my phone and borrowed phones from others. In no way did I find it appropriate to look through their personal files. Likewise, they never looked through my files. This sets a horrible standard. It's not insignificant to attempt to change that standard.
I sincerely hope the kid feels bad for what he did and that others learns from his mistake.

The student, although remorseful, is the one at fault. No doubt he feels remorse. He should. The teacher should have had support from the school, otherwise the lesson the school has taught the student (and every male student going forward) is that female teachers do not deserve respect and male students have rights to view and share their bodies without consent or consequence. Women are not responsible through their behaviours to control men or boys. Men owe women respect.

Based on what I have read this is uncalled for and this teacher should not be the one being punished.

As an educator myself, I am appalled. This teacher had personal photos for her HUSBAND, and she has a human, American, and personal right to privacy. Whether students used her phone before is insignificant because he did not have integrity, which is doing the right thing...she certainly never gave students the instruction that it was okay to look at or distribute her personal information. Shame on the system for allowing this situation to end in a loss of a great educator and a student getting away with an invasion of privacy. The students want their teacher back, and they are smart enough to see the error of the adults, so their wish should be granted. Good luck kids, and remember adults make bad choices too, so learn from their mistakes.

Shame on the school, it's not the teachers fault. I'm in England, this is getting worldwide attention for the schools ridiculous ruling.

I completely agree with your petition, but the fact that you have typed "we have went" instead of "we have gone" suggests you never paid attention in English class. Holy crap, at least attempt to sound like you don't live in Alabama. Now as to the petition, good work. F that student and the principal. But seriously, PAY ATTENTION in class. "We have went"... FFS.

This is absurd. This teacher clearly did not make her personal photographs available any more than leaving a purse on her desk to be stolen would be doing so. Mr. Eubanks and everyone behind this decision should be ashamed.

Talk about a teachable moment! The district is giving precisely the wrong lesson here. They should stand behind Mrs. Arthur and reaffirm that private property is private and theft is theft.

I find this disgusting that the boy hasn't be discipline. This a vast invasion of privacy, it's close to rape without the action. The least he should be charged with is voyeurism.

This woman being fired is absolutely despicable! She is the victim here, and you continue to victimize her!
