This superintendent should protect his teachers from students who choose to steal teacher's personal items. It does not matter if her phone was sitting on her desk or whether it was unlocked. Would he said the same thing if a student stole his phone? I am sure it would be a whole different ballgame!

The teacher has every right to expect privacy in her personal life. This firing is puritanical and absurd.

The superintendent has it backwards. The student should be prosecuted and the teacher should have the support of the school. Disgraceful.

Is this the 1950s? Why are we punishing the victim of a crime? If anything, David Eubanks should be forced to resign for his complete mismanagement of this situation. Ms Arthur should never have been fired and this would have remained a local news article, 'local school cooperating with law enforcement over invasion of privacy issue.'
Instead, it's exploding in his face because that kind of behavior (punishing the victim) isn't tolerated anymore.

Based on the reports I've read, this is yet another story of public school administrators demonstrating a total lack of judgment and discretion. It is just mind-bogglingly stupid that Mrs. Arthur would be threatened with disciplinary action and pressured to resign because a student invaded her privacy, threatened her, and distributed her personal photos with the intent to embarrass her and harm her professionally. This was entirely the fault of the student, who acted reprehensibly. It is totally irrelevant in the discussion of repercussions to say she should have secured her phone with a pin. Of course she should, but the fact she didn't does not shift one bit of culpability to her. The student is wholly responsible for his actions. He doesn't deserve to have his life ruined over this either, but there should be some discipline at least. As for the school administration, they should be completely ashamed of themselves. If we want young students to learn to act ethically and responsibly then we should not tolerate their school administrators to act so small minded and foolish. I wish Mrs. Arthur the best and hope she returns to teaching, it sounds like she is a great asset. I hope the student at fault is remorseful and will learn from this.

The student must be expelled and punished. stealing is crime already ..moreover with the invade other people's privacy.
Please give the teacher chance, she is not doing it intentionally. Just forgotten . everybody forgets things everytime.

Unacceptable to dismiss this teacher. She should be allowed to return to work, although I suspect she might not care to work for these people again.
