Help the teacher.

DISCLAIMER: What I have written below is based on information found on www.thejournal.ie and www.telegraph.co.uk. I am disgusted by the behaviour of the student but especially by that of the interim superintendent for not supporting his own staff member in what appears to be a clear violation of a teachers privacy by a student. Even at 16, the student should have understood what it meant to share such a photo with other students and how said photo would propagate around the internet. I am relieved to hear that he student is being formally charged and I would imagine that the teacher has a good case against the school board for the way they handled it and forced her to resign. I appreciate the comment on the student showing "nothing but remorse" but if it is true that after he obtained the photo he told his teacher "your day of reckoning is coming" then I have little mercy as his behaviour was primarily malicious in nature and therefore he should be prosecuted. While the teacher left a photo of herself naked on her phone and may have left her phone unattended, neither of which were smart, she is not at fault for what happened. While the privacy breach was most disturbing, I find the lack of support from the school to be at least as bad if not worse. If the superintendent is blaming the teacher for "leaving her phone unlocked" and "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" as the news states, it smacks of how misogynistic men blame a raped woman for what befell her. I find it very worrying that such amoral people are running a school as their values are not values I would wish passed on to my children. Lessons learned: don't ruin people's lives (or your own) by sharing their sensitive data, don't leave your electronic devices unlocked, don't take photos of yourself naked without understanding the risks... and this last one to the school board: don't be amoral. Jason, Ireland.

It pains me to have to sign this petition. This should be a no brainer.

If Mr. Eubanks considers the petition as insignificant, he shouldn't have skipped the statistics course at school. Sir, you are a knee jerk reaction sort of person with very few morals. I see that you are an older man, but I hope this damages your reputation for what is left of your career.

The voice of the people is never insignificant. Shame on you, Eubanks.

The student needs to be very severely punished, and Mrs Arthur had no right to forgive him. The offence hurts us all. "Send not to know for whom the bell tolls". Expel him for a start.

Teacher was not in the wrong. The student is the one who should be punished. He invaded her privacy. Students should know not to get anything from a teachers desk even if it is in plain sight. Not even a pen. What are we reaching these kids these days smh.

Doesn't say much for the discipline at this school . This boy should be ashamed of his actions and banned from the school . What about the schools duty of care to the teacher.

Complete and utter injustice. The student should be severely reprimanded or expelled, and the superintendant should be the one who is fired.

This young Teacher is not at fault... the Student in effect 'stole' from her property and should be held to account for his actions.... not the Teacher.

Under no circumstances should this woman be punished because a student invaded her privacy, stole her property, and illegally accessed a computer/cell phone account of another person. That boy needs to be charged as a criminal and handled accordingly. Her life has been turned upside down because of a snide little bastard with an axe to grind with an authority figure. Do the right thing, stop proceedings to remove her, drop any charges, and CHARGE the real criminal - that vindictive snot.

This child should be punished. There's no doubt about it and this teacher should get her job back and this kid expelled! The superintendent should be fired as well for handling this so poorly!

what she has on her phone is her business. and as long as she wasn't sending the stuff 2 students there's nothing wrong with what she did

This will be Superintendent Eubanks' legacy. Whatever he does here will define his career for the rest of his life. And right now, he's on the wrong side of public opinion and history.
